"Yeah, without trophy birds to hunt in this game, shotguns are utterly useless.
Slugs are actually WORSE than the .454 magnum ammo, but the shotgun weighs more than the Rhino .454 magnum, and is way more grindy to unlock. So tell me, what's the point of grinding an average of 30 shotgun score per deer kill (somewhere around 120-140 deer will need to be tracked, shot multiple times, and finally die to unlock the slugs) to unlock inferior class 3 ammo? Just get a .454 magnum with the scope and call it a day.

Patch 1.15 needed to buff the buckshot's penetration, or make it so that bleed rates stack (death by 1K cuts, so to speak).

Hopefully this meme I made will give us something to laugh about the next time you shoot a deer 6 times over the span of an hour or two, waiting for it to finally bleed to death, only to realize the goal of unlocking slugs is pointless."

Still, the ballistics in CotW is WAY better than the Sniper Elite games. Bullet drop in those is absurd, considering at 400 yards with a .30-06 requires about 40 feet of elevation in the game; that's nuts, because at 400 yards IRL, a typical .30-06 load is gonna need about 4-8 inches elevation. You almost shoot directly at the target IRL. At least CotW got .30-06 fairly close to realistic. Kinda.

Just reviewed this years later. I now have a 12ga Mossberg 500 in real life, and hand load my own shells. So now, looking back, I really don't think the devs understand that in MOST 12ga 2 3/4" shells (typical 12ga shell), you can only fit 9 pellets of 00 buck (3 stacks of 3), meaning if you had hit the deer twice like I had, the max possible hits would be 18. Each pellet of 00 buck is about .38 caliber, and at that close of a range, one blast to the flank would most likely act more like a slug. I still have the old screenshot, and I'm just shaking my head wondering what they referenced to determine shot performance.

I had a 420gn arrow stop on the breast plate of a roe deer providing only a flesh wound at about 20 yards. This was, of course, AFTER I hit a bear in the head piercing his skull at 35 yards. These things are arbitrary in this game. I can live with the inconsistencies like this, but I wish the animals would stop running in to lakes and in to the sides of mountains and stuff like that..While we are at it, Why exactly is is that you can get integrity bonus on a white tail with a .44 but not on a black tale? They are not even a different species of deer and the game even classes them as class 2, which the .44 is as well. These guys sold us a BETA!! Can you make memes for this stuff too?

They seem to have finally fixed it. At least the 12g, anyway. I usually just hunt with the .270, bow, and .454, so I'm having no issues now.
