This guide is for AMD users. You can check NVIDIA version here.
1. First step...
...is make the game playable. (Otherwise it won't even start in Windows 10.)

  • Go to your default game directory. Usually;
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Port Royale 2

  • Right-click on PR2.exe -> Properties

  • On Compatibility tab, check "Run this program in compatibility mode for:"

  • Select "Windows 98 / Windows ME"
2. Game is working but...
...it's so pixelated and sea texture is messed up. To prevent this, open AMD Radeon Settings.

  • On Gaming tab, find Port Royale 2 profile and click.

  • Most of these settings are turned off by default. We're gonna turn them on.

    - Anti-aliasing Mode -> Select "Override application settings", than select "8xEQ" from Anti-aliasing Level.

    - Anti-aliasing Method -> Select "Supersampling"

    - Morphological Filtering -> You can toggle on this setting but i didn't see any major differences.

    - Anistrophic Filtering Mode -> Select "Override application settings", than select "16x" from Anistrophic Filtering Level.

    - Texture Filtering Quality -> Select "High"

    - Keep "AMD optimized" for Shader Cache and Tessellation Mode
3. Sea texture is fine now and...
...there is only one problem left. Everything is pixelated. To use anti-aliasing settings enabled, we need one last retouch.

  • Open Port Royale 2 configuration

  • Check "Execute in full-screen mode" (This option is a necessity, otherwise anti-aliasing won't applied)

  • Check other options too, except "Use colored hardware mouse cursor".
And voilà
Just like the old times.

Works fine on Linux with Proton...

To be fair, other than Windows 11 everything seems fine. Some people cannot run the game on Windows 11 while others have no problem. Since I cannot try, I have no idea why. Sometimes it's hit or miss too, there was a person who has the same specs with me but the game didn't work for him/her. So, DLL fix usually works but when it doesn't, either I recommend a virtual machine and older Windows versions or a Linux version.

If you tried every step on the newer guide and it didn't work, sorry I can't help further. Maybe trying other compatibility settings would work but not sure.

@mitsukuni, My pc is an HP Windows 11, AMD Radeon Vega 3 Graphics 2GB FullHD, 20GB RAM, bought last year. I tried to set "windows 98/ME" compatibility, but it won't work neither pr2 Config. I don't know why.

@minotaurmanu
It doesn't start even when you set compatibility to "Windows 98/ME"?
Also, does your PC have iGPU? If so that could be related to it.

Could you try these DLLs from the link?
https://gitlab.com/gitsukuni/port-royale-2-dlls/-/blob/master/Wine_8-12.zip

If they also don't work, sadly I cannot help with Windows 11 since I don't use it. Best I can do is, I can upload new DLLs when there is a new major release.

By the way, could you write your system specs just for the feedback?

Hi @minotaurmanu
This is an old guide and I only suggest this if the newer one doesn't work. So please check this one, perhaps it will work for you.
