What is Required
To get golden crates, you need to secure 85% of the dog tags.
How many dog tags until 85%
The number of dog tags possible ranges from 20 to 41, so I have listed how many dog tags you will need for each amount of dog tags in total to reach 85%
These calculations were done by doing <Total Dog Tags>*0.85 and rounded up to the nearest whole number.

Notes
The numbers listed above are what is required for everyone to get a golden crate.
However, the stat rewards at the end of a mission can change this. If you get 14/20 dog tags, but get all 3 stat boosts, you will get a golden crate. But nobody else on your team will.

"Additional Loot Counts as Loot points SO if you missed a few tags but bagged the gold should also get a Gold loot box." (Thanks Zolerox)

Might be a few years late but there seems to be some raids where there are only 18 dog tags

I think there must be something off with the rounding because I just did a mission with 31/36 dog tags and it was only a silver crate before applying a "Best Of" award.

thank god for this guide, now i dont have to literally scream at noobs that they dont need all the dog tags per level to get a golden crate

Not sure of the drop rates on items, but gold crates do drop more rare items more often.

I keep getting those damned XP Point boosts in gold boxes, know anything on that? I feel like there's a pattern: get a clothing slot, then a crap ton of XP then back.

That would be an operation then, correct? When that is the case, just use the amount of dog tags required per day. And you'll get a gold crate in the end.
