Introduction
Welcome to the Steam Artwork Showcase Guide!
My name is Misty & I'm a self-taught Graphic Designer.

This guide will show you how you can make and upload your own Steam artwork as a showcase very easily, step-by-step!
Requirements
You will need three things to be able to make your artwork:
  • Your Steam account need to be level 10 or above
  • After Effects (Every version works, I use CC 2017)
  • Photoshop (Every version works, I use CC 2017)
Step 1: Choose a Background
First, find yourself a background that you want to use. The background need to exist on the Steam Marketplace, since you will need to buy the background to use it.

I would recommend two websites to find the background for your needs:
Website 1 [steam.tools]
Website 2[meebleforp.com]
Step 2: Find the Background on the Marketplace
Go to the Steam Marketplace and search for the name of the background.

When you're on the background page, click on the button saying "View Full Size".

By clicking the button you will get the full background size on your browser.
Copy the link from the search bar.
Step 3: Preview the Background on Profile
First of all, go to Steam.Design [steam.design].

The link you just copied, paste it in where it says "You can paste a custom image URL here".
Then click "Change BG". The profile will change to the background you chose.

If you go to the bottom of the artwork, you can drag and adjust the size of it. When you are happy with the result, press the "Download ZIP" button to download the picture files that you'll need.

Extract it to a folder and put it where you want, I suggest desktop.
Step 4: After Effects
Before we head in to After Effects, we need to look up the size of the picture.

The only thing you need to do is locate the folder we just downloaded, rightclick on the picture "Artwork_Middle", press "Properties". Under the tab "Information" can you see the Width and Height of the picture, remember those!

Now, head in to After Effects, create a new project and after that, create a new composition.

To create a new composition, locate the "Composition" button at the top left and click "New Composition".

Fill in your Width and Height settings, then copy the rest of my settings.
Step 5: Import Needed Files
Rightclick in the left middle box to import the needed files, like the "Artwork_Middle" file.
Step 6: Insert a Text/Object
To insert a text, click the text icon at the top left bar.

Now you can add all effects that you want like a nice fade in effect.
Make sure to not add too much effects since Steam only allows files below 8 MB filesize.
Step 7: Adjust the Animation Length
Now you want to adjust the length of the animation, you choose how long you want your artwork to be. You only need to adjust with the Time Ruler (The thicker bar with blue ends).

Step 8: Render the Artwork
When you feel ready to render your artwork,
Press the "Composition" button at the top left bar, click "Add to Render Queue".

Now does this appear at the bottom:

You want to click on "Lossless" to set up the settings that you need to change.

You need to change the Format to "PNG Sequence".
Make sure you copy these settings:

Next step is to change the Output Folder. Just press the text next to "Output To:" in the same box that we changed the settings.

Make sure you set the Output in a folder, since it will be rendered in a lot of picture files.

The last step of the rendering in After Effect is to click the "Render" button at far bottom right.
Step 9: Open the Artwork in Photoshop
When Photoshop is opened, go to "File" -> "Open". Then locate the folder that you rendered the After Effects photos.

Press the first file and check the box "Image Sequence", then click open.

Set the Frame Rate to 60.

Now, at the top bar, click "Window" and click "Timeline".
At the bottom, click the cogwheel and set the Resolution to 100%, now you can click play to preview the artwork to make sure that all worked as it should.
Step 10: Complete the Artwork
At the top bar, click "File" -> "Export" -> "Save for Web (Legacy)".

Now copy these settings:
Make sure to set the "Looping Options" under "Animation" to "Always".

The last step is to click "Save" and choose where you want to save the artwork.
Step 11: Upload the Artwork
First, go to this link .

Then, choose your title and description and choose the artwork file, but don't upload it yet!

Make sure you can see your artwork on the right side like this:

Press F12 on your keyboard, and click the tab "Console".

Now copy this link, paste it in the console and press Enter. You should get a feedback of 1.
document.getElementsByName("image_width")[0].value = 1000;document.getElementsByName("image_height")[0].value = 1;

Now you are free to upload the artwork!

Then do this step again for the side panel if you want that one too!
Step 12: Upload the Artwork to your Profile
Go to your profile, click "Edit Profile". Scroll down to "Featured Showcase". It looks like this:

Then choose "Artwork Showcase".

Pick your artwork and save it, then you're done!
