Wheel of Time is a story-driven FPS developed by Legend Entertainment, a now-defunct studio who also made Na Pali for Unreal and the entire Unreal II game.

The texture work here is undeniably the best feature. I haven't seen detail this incredible in years--even including modern games--and it absolutely stands the test of...time (ayyy). I'm fairly certain a large portion of the textures are lifted from classical art, but even if that is the case, it's a marvel to see.

Graphics themselves are spectacular when compared to its contemporaries, but obviously don't look great now. Architecture is very good, but lighting effects (the ones that still work with new video cards) get old, fast. Spell effects are neat, but truthfully only serve as flashlights in oppressive and dreary environments.

As a game, it's certainly worth a playthrough, assuming you can find it anywhere. Until GoG sees fit to obtain the rights, you'll just have to get creative.

In relation to the novels, I can only speak as someone who has read the first four (each three times) before getting buttblasted at the lack of anything happening and throwing them into a fire. This game does have loads of treats for those familiar though, and if you're a fan of the series, you absolutely must play this. Everyone else might not be immersed enough to regard this as anything more than a standard FPS. YMMV.
