The Basics
If you want to be a good Pyro you need to learn the basics first.
Playing as a Pyro means alot more than just holding "w"+"mouse1"
Those are the basics you need to know in order to be a good Pyro.
Spychecking
A Pyro is the born "spychecker" if one of your teammates seems suspicious or looks at you funny or tries to get behind you, try to set them on fire. If they burn, they are Spies and you should see it as your duty to burn them alive and protect your teammates.
The Pyro is also a very fast class, use this to your advantage and run trough your teammates, if you bump against them they are Spies and you know what to do with them!
If you spycheck around your teammates you will soon be a loved protector and the hero of your team.
Airblasting
As a Pyro when using any weapon except the Phlogistinator you have the ability to airblast with your secondary attack button, this is one of the most important abilities you have as a Pyro.
The airblast extinguishes burning teammates, knocks enemies off cliffs or into rockets, keeps Spies away from you, clears sticky clusters and can also protect you from pretty much everything that isn't a bullet.
If you practice your timing you will soon be untouchable by rockets, arrows, Jarate, Madmilk, baseballs and pretty much everything else that flies trough the air, and nothing gives your more satisfaction than killing a Soldier with his own rocket that you just reflected.
Loadouts and game modes
The first thing you need to know when you're playing Pyro is what you should take with you on the battlefield.
Depending on different playstyles and gamemodes I'll show you some basic sets and tell you when to use them.
The Quick Killer
1. Degreaser
2. Detonator / Flaregun / Reserve Shooter
3. Axtinguisher

This is one of the most common Pyro loadouts in TF2, the fast weapon switch of the Degreaser makes it possible to light an enemy on fire and kill him almost instantly with a hit from your Axtinguisher. If your enemy is too far away, or dodges your Axtinguisher, you should get your Detonator out and shoot him, the ability to detonate your flares pretty much gives you a 100% hit chance and if the player is allready burning you'll deal a ton of damage.
Another great and often overlooked feature of the Detonator is the ability to "Detonator-jump",
looking down at your feet jumping and shooting the Detonator boosts your jump, you will not get as high with it as you will with a rocketjump, but you will be able to get to locations nobody expects a Pyro in, and with the element of supprise you can shove your Axtinguisher in their burning faces and safe the day.
When using the Flaregun, you might not be able to Detonator-jump, but if your aim is good enough, you will be unstopable, the Flaregun deal crits against burning players and is doing even more damage than the Detonator, it will truly make you a quick killer.
If you are using the Reserve Shooter you will have another great way of dominating your enemies, you can blast them in the air with the secondary attack of your Degreaser and shoot them with your Reserve Shooter, this way you will deal a ton of damage and will be feared by the enemy team.

This Loadout is great if you want to be an unstoppable one-man-army.
You don't need much help from your teammates and will soon find yourself dominating the whole server and the best part about this loadout is, you can use it in every game mode and it'll allways be great. Offense is the best defense after all.
The Pybro
1. Degreaser / Flamethrower
2. Flaregun
3. Homewrecker

The Pybro is probably one of the most loved people on the server, playing as a Pybro you will be like this one guy at the party that everybody loves. You are playing a more defensive role and keep close to Engineers and their Sentry-nests, your objective is to spycheck everyone who dares to come near the Sentry-nest, airblast rockets away from the Sentry-nest, extinguish burning teammates and use the Homewrecker to unsap buildings if a spy actually manages to get into a Sentry-nest and if you're getting bored, try sniping some enemies with your flaregun, you will be amazed how many kills you can get with it, even if your enemies are all the way across the map.
You will help your team winning and will be loved by them for your nice attitude.
You are the nicest guy on the server and you should be proud of yourself.

This loadout is perfect for "Controllpoints", "King Of The Hill" and the defensive roles in "Attack/Defense" and "Payload" you only need a Sentry-nest to protect.
The Spyro
1. Backburner
2. Detonator
3. Backscratcher

With this set you are basically a Spy, but you are alot more dangerous.
The element of supprise is what makes this loadout perfect, you will sneak up behind your enemy and wait for him in places where he wouldn't expect a Pyro thanks to the detonator-jump.
The Backscratcher will turn yourself into a tank, reducing taken damage and giving you a health bonus from medikits.
The Backbruner however, is your main weapon.
If you master the art of sneaking behind your enemy he will be dead before he can turn around and look in your soulless eyes. You are a killing machine, but a silent one.

This loadout works great in defensive gameplay like "Payload" or "Controllpoints" and will give your enemies a hard time.
The Gas Jockey
1. Degreaser
2. Reserve Shooter
3. Powerjack
Hat: Attendant

This set gives you an insane speed bonus that will make your enemies scream in fear, because running isn't an option anymore, no need to run, you WILL get them.
While fire is still useful, this loadout will concentrate on the airblast, your main goal should be blasting enemies in the air and shooting them with your Reserve Shooter dealing a ton of damage.
Cliffs and deadly drops are your best friends now, blast your enemies down there, blast them away from your team, just blast them, because thats really what it is all about.
When you are using this loadout in battle, airblast people, but when you do it, do it cool.

This loadout can be successfully used in every game mode and is sure to be "a blast".
Last Words
I hope this guide was able to help you understanding the basics of playing Pyro and picking a loadout that fits your playstyle the most.
Please note that those are my suggestions and while everybody has a different taste, this is what I think is most useful.
Thanks for reading and have a nice day and a good time playing Pyro.

Pierow (my actual favorite loadout):
-Backburner (Rather do airblast rarely than insanely)
-Mannmelter (Cuz why waste ammo)
-Sharpened Volcano Fragment (Because you need 3 afterburn weapons to be good)

In a nutshell. M1 + W = win.

Flare gun does 90 dmg if target is already on fire and detonator does only 41. Also, flare isn't very tough at aiming - in my opinion detonator is just for unskilled players. I use this only in situations when flare jumping actually gives some advantage, for example last room in barnblitz. Everywhere else additional damage makes you real Chuck Norris on server thanks to some techniques like quick fire>airblast>flare (mainly it takes half second to kill a scout and so hardly harm other classes) or fire>flare>1 or 2 hits with axtinguisher - it kills overhealed heavy in approximately 2 (!!) seconds (it works especially when attacking from side/behind, after ambush in a corner or when the enemy has slow reaction time). Consider what I said and please - notice about this gun in "Quick Killer" part.

Like I said, it was my opinion and the whole Detonator vs. Flaregun thing is going on for quite a while now, I just decided to put the Detonator in there, but if you'd like, I could add a part about the Flaregun too.

The real quick killer set is: Degreaser, FLARE GUN, axtinguisher.
Why not detonator? Cause it sucks dick. Or just mini-crits instead of full crits.
Why not reserve shooter? Because it's still does less damage than flare gun.
