Make sure you have better gear than everyone. If your fellow pvp-er has a sword, grab a gun or a bow so you have the ranged advantage. If the other person has a bow, as long as you believe that you are better than them, grab a sword and charge at them like a wild boar. Works every time! (almost)

Accessories should match your class like ranger and melee. Sometimes it's better to have a broader class than a more specific class like the yo-yo. All prefixes should be +4% or contain the number 4 in it. As long as the prefix helps you achieve your goal of brutally murdering another player then the prefix is fine.

One thing that many people take for granted during PVP matches is the structure of the base. Many times there are places where your specific weapon has an advantage. Say if you had a staircase that zig-zags every whichaway, what you could do is grab a weapon that bounces off walls like the Pulse Bow or the Shadowbeam Staff. Another way you can gain an unfair advantage is to create little 1 block spaces leading down to the lower floor. This way if you have a yoyo you can yoyo your yoyo through the yoyo hole which allows you to yoyo the opponent and kill them with a yoyo.

When people take base structure for granted traps are completely overlooked. I would create a long corridor which has spear traps or spiky ball traps at the top. This would allow myself to run through with no traps, activate the traps, and then watch as my opponent is stuck in the newly trapped hallway of death. To save on materials you can get arrow traps that shoot through the corridor so your opponent can't sit in a single spot and not get hit.

Overall when you have a good base structure with good traps, you don't even need amazing weapons or amazing gear to win a PVP match. Always remember, the best way to win a fight is to be one step ahead of your opponent.

Being killed by another player isn't a big deal considering the fact that in order to pvp you have to voluntary turn on pvp. So for all you people who rage at being killed by people. Stop turning on pvp you big noob.
