Introduction
Hello my name is atherial, I am a vetern dungeon defenders player who has spent a fair bit of time auctioning and buying items off the forums. This guide is made to assist people in making auctions that catch the eye and will hopefully assist in making the seller and buyer have a more plesant experiance when trading items. The guide will also contain the following.
  • General item values
  • A template i use for auctions
If you happen to get a good item that you are unable to use you can sell the item for a item you can use. Or for example you can buy items that are a pain to farm due to the drop rates of ++ armor and other rare items being so low that self farming it is near impossible.

So i will without further wasted time i will get right into the basic information of auctioning items.

All links i mention will be in the links section
Basic Auction Information
The following is a list of all the things you will normally see and is important to have in a auction and exactly what they mean.
  • Title
  • Reserves
  • End Dates
  • Other Information

The title is super important as it tells everyone what you are selling and what is going on in the thread. Sometmie people ignore threads based off having a bad title or a title that is misleading. Below i will go over all the types of titles for auctions.
  • (WTA) X = want to auction X item.
  • (WTS) X = Want to sell X item for a set price.
  • (WTB) X = Want to buy X item for either a set price of best offer.

Reserves are a important factor of auctions to either deny "joke" bids and protect yourself from getting scammed on low popularity auctions.

Reserve X: If there is a flat reserve set on a auction that is visable it means that the seller will not sell the item unless the price gets above X. This is a smart thing to place for a event item as if you will only accept above market price on the item it allows people to not waste their time bidding on the item. If you want to get more attention on the item it may be smarter to put a hidden reserve but you should always state that you reserve the right to not sell.

Hidden Reserve: This is the same as the above reserve except that it is not listed on the auction page with a set number. Please note that this is not stating that there is no number when you place a hidden reserve it means you have a reserve that is a set number but have decided not to publically show it. Most times if you are to ask the seller what the reserve is privately you will get a set number or a general number. Some upsides to this is that you tend to get more "joke" bids when having hidden reserves but each of those "joke" bids gives your auction more time on the front page and lets you get more visability.

Reserve the Right Not to Sell: This is a classic reserve that is very common on auctioning as it allows the seller to deny any bid and lets them not have as much accountability. It is good for selling high value items that have 200+ Cv cost where you may assign a reserve not to sell incase a lower bid has items you really want as opposed to a pure diamond bid or less desired items. Though from experiance i do not like bidding on items with this reserve option as it is subjective and i do not suggest it.

This is a very important factor of the auctionand often overlooked from experiance in selling and buying i will almsot never bid on a auction without a end date that is set in stone. We need to know what time things are ending so that we can protect ourselves from snipers or to snipe people. Expecially when you do not have a flexable end date. Below i will cover end dates and ways to make it fair on yourself and other players.

Determining a End Date Window: The normal values for time between the opening and closing of a auction are as follows. Note these are my personal opinions and may be variable for other people. I tend to determine the end date by the value of the reserve or my idea of what it may reach in the end.
  • Under 25cv = 1 week is a decent time though single items can be around 2 - 3 days if you want a quick turn around and do not mind missing out on a few cv every once in a while.
  • Between 25cv and 75cv = Always 1 week but can be streched to 10 - 12 days if it is in the high end of the range.
  • 100+cv = I suggest running these for 2 weeks as people will need to orginise currency make choices and you want as many to see as possible.
This is a good set of rules to run by for setting a end date. Make sure that you set a general end date with a time in a timezone that is understandable. Clarity is a important factor in auctions.

Flexable End Dates: This is a very good way to stop sniping from happening. The common way to do this is if there is a bid in the last 24 hours of a auction it extends the end date of the auction by 24 hours onwards until a bid has been on the top for 24 hours. This gives everyone the chance to see and make a counter bid if they are outbid. For short 2 -3 day auctions this can be set at 4 hours or slightly more though i do not suggest doing 24 hours on a short auction.

IC is a very important part of auctioning items that are not event items as they have another way of determining if they are legit. A item check is used to determine if the item is possible and thus unlikely to be hacked. The way to get a item ICed is by posting in the IC thread and then PMing any of the ICers the uncensered item. The people that you can send the item to for IC are as follows please send them the item on the forum PMs.
  • DDace
  • Plane
  • Caimen0
  • Harry
  • SirPancakez
Note that currently the fastest ICer is (Plane

Traces is a important part of event items. They are used to see if the item is legit and given by a host, or running a event. A trace commonly looks like this and ideally has screenshots of each trade. (Note some players will only accept screenshot based trades)

Example of Trace
Host > Player A > Player B > You > Seller / Buyer

  • C/O = This is the current offer on the item
  • Item Values = This is what the seller values items at
  • Not Accepted = This is what is not accepted by the seller
  • Notes or Introduction = This is where the seller state notes or introduce you to the auction.

Now that all those basic features have been looked into indepth i will give a general values chart explaining what items are worth. Note that this is in my opinion and may change overtime as this guide becomes older. I will attempt to update the values list every 2 - 3 months.
Generalized Item Values
Mana: Flat value (lowest level of currency)
Coal: 1 = 15 bill mana
Cube: 1 = 6 coal
Diamonds: (non/single/double) = (5/10/15)
  • Noncaps: No tower caps (has to be tdmg)
  • Single Caps: They cap one stat (has to be tdmg)
  • Double Cap: They cap two stats (has to be tdmg and either rate or hp)
Note people may not accept upgraded diamonds so make sure you ask them if they do not state it.

This is my general event values chart that i commonly use in auctions. Note my armguard values are still like 4 years old. i would cut them down by like 90% now.(also ignore my RM value it is a common joke and grudge that i hold it is more around 180cv.

Following that general order of setting up the auction will give everyone the information that they need to bid on the item. It looks nice and is easy to do. If you want you can copy the above item values area for the item values. just make sure that you look over it and make sure that you like them and or approve of them. Everything in the basic information can assist you in filling this template out.

Well, as mentioned in the comments below its best to get a few price quotes from multiple people to see what they are willing to pay for some item.

Some people still value Vile's at about 10cv, but it has sold quite a few times at more than 15. At some point it used to be like 5cv or less because of how many of those were handed out. But off late it's about 15-20cv.

is vile lord really 15-20cv? damn
