Guide
Follow these simple steps.

1. Download ReShade 3.0 from their official website[www.reshade.me].

2. Run the installer and when it says select game, choose ..\Steam\steamapps\common\Dark and Light\DNL\Binaries\Win64. Once you have selected the .exe remember to check the DirectX10+ option.

3. When it asks you to install the shaders, click Yes then select only Adaptive Sharpen, Clarity and HDR. I'm sure you can download others if you wish to but I haven't tried it so I can't recommend any.

4. Once the install is complete you start up the game by running the same execute you selected earlier(DNL.exe). This is a one time deal only so later on you can just start it up from Steam like you normally do. This step isn't always necessary. It depends on the game.

5. Once the game starts up you should see a box appear in the top left corner saying "bla bla Reshade 3.0". That means that it worked.

6. Once you're either in the main menu or ingame you press Shift+F2 to get the ReShade menu to open. When that's done you just follow the easy tutorial which shouldn't take more than a few seconds.

7. When the tutorial is complete you can mess around with the settings, select which shaders work best for you, or just delete it if you're unhappy with the final result. The only change I made was to turn ClarityStrength down a little.
Notes
Use ReShade at your own risk.

ReShade does not alter any of the game's files so there should't be any risk of getting banned. I've been using it for years on plenty of games and I've never had a problem. That is my experience though, your results may differ.

I haven't experienced any fps changes since I started using ReShade for Black and Light.

This guide also works for most games. I use the same recipe for Battlegrounds, Arma 3, Rising Storm 2 and Fallout 4 just to name a few.

I usually provide a section containing screenshots that show off the results, but uploading to Steam and adding them here is a hassle, so I won't do it. Just Google "ReShade game effects" and you'll see the difference.

@Hobo In the older versions of ReShade it was just called HDR, in the recent ones its Fake HDR. From what I can tell it's basically a gamma/brightness adjuster.

@zapo Sorry for the late reply. I haven't tried any performance modes for ReShade so I really don't know.

So for my the only thing related to "HDR" is "fake HDR" I assume this is becuase either my monitor or GPU doesn't have those capabilities so assume it just helps it look like that? With what it can work with?

I followed the instructions, but when I put it in Performance mode most of the screen turned bright white. I have zero knowledge of shaders. Can you tell me what I should adjust?

@Castom1989 Add > -d3d10 to your game launch properties, this will make the game use DirectX 10 in which the grass will be disabled.

Right click Darl and Light in Steam>Properties>In the first window click "Launch game properties" Add -d3d10 >click ok and run the game.

Didn't work for me. The game appeared fine when Shift+F2 was pressed, but when that was closed down the light source on my staff was the only thing that moved.
