personally I prefer the dummy rocket, load it up with blue bombs and use it like a missile

Drop crate spam works best on drop ships that are close to the surface and far from the sky, and will instantly blow them up most of the time, killing anything left inside and crushing the rest below it. On occasion, it can hit rockets and people on the ground too. Just in case it misses though, I'd put a couple standard bombs in it. Oh, and don't use cluster mine bombs in rockets or anything. This one time when the rocket exploded, all the cluster mine bombs counted as the enemy's, and I kept getting blown up while they got through perfectly safe.
