To preface this, I had played DJMax since the Portable 2 times, and had played multiple sound-key-based rhythm games since like Beatmania and Osu to name a few.

One thing about DJMAX is its pedigree in song-writing and the flow of rhythm. This one is at its peak; the notes feel good, properly mapped to go with the beat of the song. It feel as if thought has been placed into positioning the beatmaps's individual notes. And that is when I played the olden beatmaps from DJMAX Portable 1 and 2 (e.g. Another DAY, Save My Dream)

Some tips to those planning to purchase:
- DLC Shenanigans. Unavoidable if you want the complete package. Base version contains DJMAX Portable 1 and 2, along with some originals from Respect and Respect V pre-DLC. Get the legacy bundle, best value for money https://store.steampowered.com/bundle/24544/LEGACY_BUNDLE__DJMAX_RESPECT_V/. Even the older ones are great to watch, great to listen.
- Buy on discount. Nexon releases discounts when a new pack arrives. Check regularly. You wouldnt then feel too bad about losing your value for money if the game closes one day. For the V Extension packs, you could buy all except every 2 latest packs as the discounts are smaller or non-existent. Collab bundles are not really worth it as they have no sound mapped to keys; BGM quality also lags in comparison to the usual BGMs.
- Use the in-game timing window to set your offset, should get the job done to get those 100Maxes.
- XIGNCODE and online. If you hate online-only, there are good alternatives, however this one is frankly top of the craft as it is.
- Collection is almost redundant thanks to the DJMAX Archive youtube channel. If you want to watch the BGMs...well just watch on Youtube.
