Tokyo ghoul (Japanese: 東京喰種トーキョーグール, Hepburn: Tōkyō Gūru) is a Japanese manga in the genre of dark fantasy, written and illustrated by Sui ISIS. From September 2011 to September 2014, she was published in Shueisha's Weekly Young Jump seinen manga magazine, and her chapters were collected in 14 tankobon volumes. The story takes place in an alternate version of Tokyo, where humans coexist with ghouls, creatures that look like humans but can only survive by eating human flesh. Ken Kaneki is a college student who turns into a half—ghoul after meeting one of them. He must navigate the complex social and political dynamics between humans and ghouls, struggling to preserve his humanity.
