As a long-time fan of Hunt: Showdown, I was excited for the new 1896 update, but after spending some time with it, I’ve been left frustrated and disappointed by some of the changes. While I appreciate the effort to bring new content and improvements, there are glaring issues that severely affect the gameplay experience.

Trading Kills Are Out of Control
One of the most annoying problems in Hunt: Showdown (1896) is the rampant issue with trading kills. This game is built around intense firefights, tactical play, and high-stakes combat, so when you and an enemy both kill each other at the same time, it completely breaks the immersion. It happens way too often now, and it feels like these moments of trading shots have become less about skill and more about bad luck.

In previous versions, I would occasionally trade kills, but now it seems like every other encounter ends this way. It’s incredibly frustrating when you perfectly line up a shot, only for the enemy to still take you down at the exact same moment. This not only ruins the satisfaction of winning a fight but also makes close combat feel inconsistent and random. Instead of rewarding skillful play, it feels like Hunt: Showdown has devolved into a coin flip of who dies first.

New Engine, Lower FPS
With the 1896 update came a new engine, which was supposed to enhance the game’s performance and visuals. Unfortunately, the opposite seems to have happened, as the game’s FPS has taken a serious hit for a lot of players, myself included. Prior to the update, I could run the game smoothly on medium to high settings without much issue, but now, even lowering the settings doesn’t seem to help stabilize the framerate.

The worst part is that these frame drops and stutters often happen during critical moments, like in the middle of gunfights or when I’m trying to sneak up on a bounty target. In a game where precision and timing are everything, lower FPS can ruin the experience. A split-second of lag can mean the difference between life and death, and I’ve lost too many fights now due to poor performance.

It’s especially frustrating when you consider that the game doesn’t look drastically better than it did before. Sure, there are some graphical improvements here and there, but they’re not worth the hit to performance. It feels like the new engine introduced more problems than it solved.

Bugs and Glitches
On top of the kill trades and FPS issues, the 1896 update has introduced a whole new set of bugs and glitches. Doors sometimes don’t open or close properly, AI can behave erratically, and hit registration seems worse than ever. I’ve had several instances where it feels like my bullets are going straight through enemies without registering a hit. These glitches stack up over time and make the overall experience feel less polished than it was before.
