Something I have been questioning for months is how to write a review for a game I personally consider a masterpiece without it being taken as "glazing" a game that has been stuck in my head and has made me emotional every single time, this game is my personal GOTY, and if you believe a different game deserves it then that is your prerogative and all the comparisons between games like DS2 and Exp 33 which while I have not played both are said to be amazing games and this causes ruin to good things.

I beg of you to give this game a try if you have not already while I believe not everyone will enjoy this game I urge you to try as the story it tells is a amazing story of grief, loss, escapism, but also joy, wonder, and what it means to be human.

The characters in this game I think are immaculate now while they have their problems i.e. some lack of development in certain aspects I think the writers and artists did a great job with how you grow attached to the empathetic and caring father/brother figure Gustave [my personal favourite], the funny feet and fight loving Monoco or the huggable teddy bear that is Esquie just to0 name a few.

I love all the red herrings to who the true antagonist is personally I think it is Clea , and the true protagonist being Maelle , I also hate and love painted Renoir as he killed off Gustave, and made me ball my eyes out which I have never done for a game before, but where I grow to empathise with his selfish desire to keep his family together at the cost of others lives, which reflects the desires of the real Renoir to kill anything in the painting that stands in his path to bring Alicia and Aline out of the painting to bring his family back together. Despite him acknowledging them as people in their own way who experience love, lost, betrayal, and sacrifice while fighting against Gods who use the world they were forced to live in to escape their reality to live a fake life to handle the grief of death.

Then their are the endings which neither feel good and I don't think they are supposed to feel good, and that is what the writers intended as both are two extremes with all hope of a middle ground lost after Gustave's death after all "Life keeps forcing cruel choices" and us having to choose between the people in the painting and Alicia's love for them along with the emptiness she feels with her biological family even with knowing the her being in the painting will eventually kill her and then the painting most likely being destroyed, weighed against Verso's brotherly love of Alicia/Maelle, but also desire to die maaking it the cruelest choice of them all.

Now I am yapping a whole bunch so I am going to wrap this up quick as I am typing this at two in the morning but anyways the music is heart-wrenching and filled with emotion that makes it so hauntingly beautiful to the point it sticks to your soul.

While the combat is innovative by combing real time elements with turn based games like live action parry/dodge mechanics and free aim which allow the combat to feel both rewarding along with adding increased depth due to the multitude of counters and euphoria inducing sound design of a perfect counter. With each character having unique abilities to bring to the table i.e. Lune with her stains or Monoco with his feet addiction.

Instructions unclear: I may have saved the princess instead and may or may not of ended the world, who knows? It's up for debate. Love this game but I think I am slowly becoming a schizophrenic I am hearing lots of voices.

Honestly, Such a good game had got this game a bit after initial release and honestly this game is a great buy at any price and devs are amazing so if you are looking for a game to sink your teeth into this is a must buy from someone who 100% everything. Still playing it even now.
