You like Neon Genesis Evangelion?

The early episodes were a little too new wave for my taste. But when Introjection (9.2) came out in '97, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole episode has a clear, crisp style, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the scenes a big boost. It's been compared to Darling in the Franxx, but I think NGE has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor.
