I drove the Navy's latest(at that time 1986) gas-turbine Spruance Class Destroyer many times during my stay upon the DD-982 USS Nicholson, but the biggest thrill was having the helm for one hour, engines full-out(32 knots) in test maneuvers with a hydro-foil the Navy was developing. That ship was FAST!!!
