Generic shooter number infinitum, except this time it's ugly because it's "Artistic" apparently.

Did we really need another game that's trying to ride the 'muh nostalgia' and 'muh abstract art' wave? There's already a thousand of these. How about you make something that isn't abhorrent to look at / engage with.

The gameplay isn't much better, it's about as ugly and dime-a-dozen as this game's artstyle. There's absolutely nothing unique about it, you have 4 different classes with 'unique' abilities, such as, get this, a grappling hook, and that's it.
The enemies aren't faring any better. They suffer the 'artistic vision' of the artist and therefore are very forgettable.
In terms of actual gameplay design, their only gimmick is that they pick up 'weapons' and use them against you. Yet none of them are interesting enough for you to have to change your strategy in dealing with them.
So, the shooting is braindead, enemies are braindead... is there anything good about this game?
not really, unless you want to count millennial humor as such.

Just don't bother. There are many better games to spend your time on than this, the game's by no means utter trash, but it's so mediocre you might as well go back to playing Deep Rock Galactic or Helldivers.

On it's own, the game's an easy 8.5/10.

The real issues stem from 3 things, mainly, while they don't ruin the game, they could certainly be improved.

1. Pacing, the pacing of the general story line is fine, especially if you go for the left flowchart before the right flowchart. But only then. The game also has issues when it comes to exposition dumps, unfortunately this is a recurring problem with Visual Novels in General, but whenever you're given a piece of information, you're repeatedly told that piece of information over and over again, to really hammer it in your head. It'd be fine if it was just one or two things, but this game does it CONSTANTLY , with details that might not even matter. In this case it comes in the form of 'flashbacks' via Aiba's vision.
This game could easily be cut by a solid 30% if they improved on this one aspect of it alone.

2. This game can't tell if it wants to be 'read', or 'solved', they seem to be in a constant clash with each other where the writers go out of their way to explain certain details to the audience when they could've easily pieced it together themselves, or at least taken a good guess at. At it's core, this is supposed to be a detective game, but judging by how often the game has characters tell you the solutions to certain 'problems', or just give you info you could've pieced together instead, and judging by the lack of any real Interrogation scenes which are standard for detective VNs, (There's a few, none of them are noteworthy except the one, which is also easy to solve) it would appear the writer has little to no faith in the audience to come to their own conclusions and instead has characters spell it out for them. this is further reinforced by the main villain explaining every single detail to you, effectively the writers deciding this game isn't made for an audience that wants to think.

3. Inconsistencies with the plot. There's a few noteworthy ones, the most 'annoying' one is how utterly alone Date is.
He has the backing of an entire secret police organization behind him and more, and yet whenever he's faced with an emergency he's the only one to show up. It feels extremely unnatural and forced.

Other than that, the game's great, the main mystery's awesome and the characters are memorable. I'd suggest trying to solve this game on your own, it feels much better then.

It's a 7/10, still not better than RE5 which was an 8 and RE4 which was a 10.

My favorite ''''racist'''' video game.
On a more serious note, this game's the 'braindead' sort of fun where you have to NOT think about things too deeply.
Also it has the best appearance of Wesker yet. He's absolutely lovely in this game.
Capcom better remake this game already.

It's good; combat's stiff as hell but it is the first game in the series.
The story isn't as engaging as a mainline Yakuza game but it's still pretty decent. There's some filler now and then, the twists aren't really twists if you were paying attention to begin with.

Side content's alright; lacks A LOT by comparison to the newer games and there's practically no memorable side stories which is a shame.

Characters are the best part of this game, and unlike other Yakuza games not all of them die after their first appearance in-game so you can be happy about that, although this game still suffers from RGG's "Kill off all the villains" trope which is a shame because some of the villains are well written enough to have deserved to appear in another game.
I'd give it a 7. It's enjoyable enough for a first playthrough but it really lacks replay value.

♥♥♥♥ tailing missions.
