The game looks, sounds, and feels really nice, while some maps can have some jank, it's forgivable, I just wish there was more to the cosmetic customization. The only thing you can choose without paying real money is the color of your skin, you can't choose your gender or even the color of your shirt. I understand the need for micro transactions in a free to play game, but between very extravagant payed costumes and the very simplistic free look there could have been an in between of mild costumization, again, gender and choosing colors and patterns would have gone a long way, you could still lock it behind levels and in-game currency like the other items in the game and it would still help free players have a bit more fun while leaving the more bombastic outfits locked behind micro transactions

i see no reason in playing this, i guess it is slightly better than the first half life but its not like thats much of an achievement. on top of of being better, its also shorter, and actually has something resembling a story, its not enough to get invested, but it sure helps getting through the game

such a short and simple game. its a very solid experience, could serve as a pretty good demo for the games from half life 2 and forward, it shows some of what its good at, and some of what its bad at. i will never play it again, but i guess it is one of the best half life games, but that isnt saying much tbh

felt slightly better than the previous titles, tho that isnt saying much. alyx is one of the most annoying companions ive seen in videogames and watching her get injured made me feel nothing. gameplay and story wise is decent, but the climax is awful, gameplay sucked and everything before and after were just teasers of a narrative that i guess we'll never get to experience. its not like the story was cut short, its more like someone told you the sinopses of a cool story that was just never made into anything. probably the least satisfying game ive ever had the displeasure of playing

half life 2 had problems, but those were toned down problems from half life, i was hopeful that this game would further reduce the problems with it, no, the exact opposite, everything the previous games did bad, its like they unlearned how to make a game. the only good thing about this was that it was shorter than its predecessors

better and more shooting sections, better and less platforming sections, simpler level design, simpler guns, less enemy variety. while this game is way less experimental and wild as its predecessor and provides a lot less variety, i find it better because it manages to provide a solid experience, its accessible and fun. there's a bit of jank but nothing unreasonable considering the game's age and how fun it is overall. like the first half life, this one also sucks at letting the player know how to progress, in this game thats rarely a problem tho since the much simpler level design makes most levels very straight forward, just keep in mind sometimes you'll find yourself wondering if your platforming will take you to the next section or out of bounds. with that said, id definitely recomend this game, i had fun and i think most people would too

This game tries to do 3 things, combat, platforming, and "puzzles". Combat is decent, some of the guns are a lot of fun, some seem completely pointless but variety is nice, enemies arent great, 80% of them are just stand still shooting at you endlessly, which isnt much funny and its made worse when some of the enemies are bullet sponges. platforming is awful, the playable character moves by a meter with a tap of a key and every surface feels like slipery ice, that in combination with the very obtuse and confusing level design made me sigh in frustration whenever i noticed a platforming section up ahead. the puzzles arent really puzzles, they are more like putting a washing machine to work except you dont know which buttons to push or where those buttons are, sometimes it's not that bad cause the game is very linear, but when you have a big area with multiple rooms and there's nothing telling you what to do or where to start it can be very time consuming and not fun at all. i respect this game for what it was, i understand how important it is for gaming history and culture, but i cant recommend it. if you have time to spare and are interested in checking out this "classic" dont let me stop you, but if you dont have much time to spare and/or are on the fence about buying it, id advise against it, spend your money on something you know for sure you will enjoy

Adorable art style. Amazing music. Combat is very simple, which doesn't offer much replay value but it's not bad and makes for an enjoyable experience. Most importantly tho, the dialogue is God tier. The dialogue basically carries the whole game. You'll be doing all the side quests just to get more lines of dialogue, it's genuinely hilarious and very endearing. And the credits are such an awesome surprise. The game might not be long but it definitely is memorable.
