I just saw this trainwreck of a thread where 99% of the commenters are being trolled, hard. But I'm here to help you understand so you don't look so foolish while bashing them. I'm not gonna explain blockchain tech, or currencies, or anything technical. I'm making this post because so many of you just listen to what Pat and others say about NFT's, the things they poke fun at, and it really doesn't seem like any of you understand it (what the appeal is, why people buy them, etc). And now you're falling into their "normie traps". Trust me, you guys aren't smarter than NFT people because you know that jpgs can be copied. They know this, and they think it's hilarious that so many people assume that's checkmate when you download their NFT jpg. In fact it reassures them that they're right when no one else gets it, they truly believe they're super-early for the next financial revolution and that it's only a matter of time before you're all reluctantly buying NFT's too while they've been billionaires for years. And why should they think otherwise when you're proving to them your ignorance when you repeat the same irrelevant arguments? By trying to "teach them" and mock them you're actually feeding them, they want twitter engagement so that more people are looking at their profile pic of their NFT. You're helping raise the value of their ♥♥♥♥♥♥ images by feeding into this. STOP. So, just to clarify some things: the jpg doesn't matter to them, period. For literally anything you buy an NFT for, whether it be a dumb ape jpg, or a video, or whatever it might be, none of the media actually matters. And that actually tracks with the classic art world, very few big shot art collectors buy original art because they love the artwork, they buy it as an investment because art goes up in value the older it gets. It's also a safe way to launder money, because art is only worth what someone's willing to pay for it (so you can pay whatever you want for it, wipe that money off the books, donate it to a gallery to write off taxes, then eventually sell it for more because you've just made it more valuable by paying so much for it then advertising it). The only thing that matters is an NFT owner's wallet ID being on the blockchain. 1 million people download a perfect copy of your NFT? Who cares? The website hosting your NFT jpg goes down forever? No big deal. The art. Doesn't. Matter. When you buy an NFT you're essentially buying a "certificate of authenticity" that says you are the sole owner of that jpg or whatever it might be. They don't care if you claim to own it too, according to the blockchain you don't, and they do. All this means is that if you wanted to sell your jpg copy of his jpg, you'll never find a buyer. He will always have buyers until the bubble bursts because all NFT buyers want is their name on that blockchain ledger. They want that certificate of authenticity, not the jpg. I used this analogy in the other thread but let's say you had an absolutely perfect copy of the Mona Lisa, perfect raised brush strokes, such that to every art expert on earth it appears to be the original. The Louvre museum wouldn't give a ♥♥♥♥. They own they original and know they own the original because they own the certificate of authenticity. There's only one of those, and if you don't own that then no art collector in their right mind would pay a penny for your perfect copy, because it's not an investment it's just a painting. Hell, even if you stole the original Mona Lisa off the Louvre's wall no one would buy it without that certificate. That's all NFT's are, your wallet ID on the blockchain ledger says you're the only one worth buying the art from.
