It is a good game if you're the type that likes building your ship.

But I ain't that type unfortunately. There wasn't really much else to do beyond killing other ships, doing missions and making your ships bigger. I just ain't the type to get bigger and bigger if there's not driving force to do so, excepting getting further into other systems maybe.

Fired about 16 railguns at a planet I'm moving along with and stupidly tried to arc about 7-8 railguns with the +2 extra projectiles upgrade and proceded to watch as they all hit my own planet.Fun game, however AI can be rather BS with their shots but it's AI. Otherwise they'd be Stellaris levels of stupid.

Before you read my review, just know one thing. This game is mainly about mining ore from asteroids and combat will happen depending on RNG at least with as much content that there is available right now. There are some things that can depending on what crew you have but there is no overarching story. You just do what you want to do and if you want to mine peacefully, sure. If you want to go take out pirates, sure. Now on to my review.

Ever wanted to play a space game with Newtonian physics without getting the feeling of wanting to pull your hair out?

Then this may be the game for you :D
Let me explain, in this game, when you burn your thrusters in one direction for even just 3 seconds, you will still be moving in that direction indefinitely until you crash into something or you change it yourself.
However, you can't just start going to 200m/s, your ship will be put under high stress from those kinds of speeds. Generally staying under 50m/s is already pretty fast.

You can control all the thrusters on your ship manually or you can use auto pilot (click on the green circle thingy in the middle of your ship and move it towards the direction you want). If your having a hard time trying to mine asteroids, click on one asteroid that you intend to mine, it will then be targeted and your ship will then attempt to face it. It is up to you then to use the autopilot to get to your intended targeted asteroid.

Don't expect jumpdrives, teleporters and plasma weaponry in this game. This would be considered low-scifi I think. Technology in this game is advanced enough that you could see humanity actually mining Saturns asteroids within reason with some science mumbo jumbo here and there. No aliens to be found or even vaguely hinted at (yet).

Also other ships being around doesn't mean your always safe, if their transponders aren't on, they are most likely hostile. You can hail all ships you are near. Sometimes you may get access to pin points you can travel to on the map without you having to go into 100km inside of Saturn's rings by yourself while manually avoiding every single asteroid and hostile ship.

P.S.- The mouth of your ship (the excavator) can nom on asteroids if they're close enough thus you don't need to shoot every single asteroid to get ore from it.

Quite an enjoyable game for whenever you need to satisfy the raging boner hatred of anything that even looks like geometry and zombies. You NEED to move around constantly or you will get hit by a zombie that makes no noise when moving or by flying/ cascading geometry. Grenades are limited as far as I know.

Recent change they made was that you can no longer switch guns. Guns randomly switch after firing em for a while, which is meant for players to use different guns without just only sticking to one.
Beats in this game pretty good.

Theres a sequel coming up in a month or 2 or so, but the game price is pretty cheap.

Some cultured art to unlock if you want that.

But all in all, pretty fun in bursts now and then.

(P.S.- Who made the art?)

Fast paced. Can be a simple button masher but on difficulties higher than normal, you're gonna need to think whether or not to dash, jump or quick attack depending on the situation. The sort of game that loads fast enough after I die that I don't mind dying many times on one boss. Base katana is pretty good.

Unsure how to utilize guns properly myself tho.

2d pixel humies doing the........."Devil's Tango"????

Abusing and torturing humies? (Not explicit, as far as 2d can show but you are exploiting them).

SIGN ME UP!! (for the exploitation, not the other thing).

It's a good game but be wary of playing with randoms as they may be veterans at the game MIGHT be rude to you. Once I was playing with a friend, this dude joined and told us to rush through the map even though my friend and I didn't even have close to 5 hours played combined. He left after he spectacularly died rushing through.

It's a free game, no microtransactions. So the only way to unlock stuff is by leveling up by just completing levels.

Unfortunately logi is not very fun.

The way you do logi is bonking salvage nodes and filling up material containers or trucks. But that process takes a long while each trip and it's very mindnumbingly monotonous. I tend to do solo logi, which I focus on stocking up the local refinery with bmats and emats..

Don't get me started on fuel trucks. You can only pull 3 cans max at a time and a singular fuel truck can fit 200 bloody cans. Game's been out since 2017 but there still isn't a button to auto fill instead of wasting my time having to shift click every 10 seconds or so. (Do correct me if the pull time is wrong)

Some will say "why don't you make your own fuel then to pull out faster?".
Problem is refineries tend to accumulate fuel cans that number in the thousands. Seeing over 6k cans in refinery isn't rare and no one is going to bother pulling it due to having to pull it all yourself without respite. That isn't gameplay that's wasting someone's time.

As far as I've seen they want to make logi more clan reliant. Have people scroop for salvage, have some others ship them or truck them to refineries. Other people use the products from the refinery in factories and then move the complete product over to their clan stockpile or to a frontline BB.

Problem is that really screws over people doing solo logi. Even with a flatbed it can only carry 5k salvage which isn't much in the grand scheme of things. You have to go back and forth every single time and you only make about 2.5k bmats per trip. Not all that much considering that thousands can get used up on frontlines on an hourly basis or so. It also doesn't help that the distance between refineries and factories are soo bloody unnecessarily long. Sometimes you have to go to a whole different hex on the map just to get your salvage to a refinery.

Best town I ever did solo logi in was Ogmaran (Before the devs ♥♥♥♥♥♥ it over so hard that only the seaport or a garage or was it a different thing?).

I liked Ogmaran because it had a high number of resource nodes in 1 hex, it always had a nice ratio of salvage:components fields.
It had 1 refinery, 2 factories, 1 mass production factory, a garage and a thing where you built those immovable machine guns/AT guns unless you had a crane.

Even though trucking stuff from the nearby fields to the refinery took a bit longer that I would have liked, I still enjoyed it as I didn't have to through very awkward routes to get there.

Ogmaran was easy to deal with for solo logi and was also the first logi town I was in when I first started playing, now it is a husk of what it once was unfortunately.

Now yes, I can just ignore logi entirely and focus on the fighting aspect. But that's like ignoring an entirely crucial mechanic in a game. Without logi, people would have to walk all the way to the frontline armed with only pistols.

(What else would you be interested in having a tad more elaboration in if I might be able to help)

In the last part of my review I rambled on about something that was not important in the review. I am also redoing this as certain things have changed.

So I still do not recommend this game unless you feel joy from not feeling like anything is an achievement. There are "alts" which are people that join team to sabotage it to help the other, it's like if teamkilling had no repercussions on the perpetrator. However these alts can destroy hours upon hours of work with next to no consequences for their actions AND THEY KNOW IT. There is zero moderation at all in this game.

Even if someone were mass reported for an allegation with video proof, nothing is done to ban them permanently. They just get maybe a week ban at most and then they can just get back right to destroying people's hard work. Sometimes they're not even doing it to help the other side, they just like seeing people' reactions and they know nothing permanent will be dealt unto them. This problem is rather far more worse than a blatant hacker as I don't even know of any alts that have been banned permanently.

The utter lack of moderation has caused a noticeable number of the community to be very paranoid about alts. Some fears were founded, but most of the time it just ended up being a newbie being accused of just having no clue what to do and not do. A worser case of this is a streamer that accused a new player whose only sin was trying to build a Bunker Base (think of a base with defenses or small drop off points) and not knowing how to do it because the in-game tutorial is ♥♥♥♥ and you only figure out from another player telling you about it, you can search for the video if you want but I won't link it because no need for more fuel to the fire.

Facilities, my my.
The devs really would like you to believe that Foxhole is definitely a 1.0 full release game (no bug guaranteed), yet still multiple glitches persist and balancing choices that seem to entirely ignore any of the feedback from the community. They used to do QnA sessions with questions from the community, now they don't anymore and are already making a new game.

So to actually talk about facilities, they are painful and I have never felt like it was an achievement or it was satisfying to "engage" with. Trying to deal with the bullshittery of the devs telling us to use facilities but putting heavy maintenance costs on them if you think of building anything bigger to build trains and the like while having defences because "too much strain on servers". Why add facilities to the game if you are going to limit us because the game can't handle it?

The introduction of facilities also marks the dreaded vehicle variants. If you look at the vehicle roster of Foxhole, you'll see quite a decent amount of vehicle types. However they have locked all but the "base" vehicles from being built in the vehicle garage. Now these variants require a facility vehicle pad in that's also upgraded with the right upgrade to built the variant you want. However, there is no easy way to tell where the right vehicle pad exists if you are a person going solo (with other random/friends in a tank). So you have to ask in game chat if there is a vehicle pad available for X vehicle, in-game map is useless in conveying any useful information of that type.

Another thing, facilities really kill off randoms joining together to supply things. Logistics is of great importance in Foxhole, and a decent chunk of it is just random players sending supplies to whatever front need it. With facilities though, there is no way for randoms to be able to help with running other players facilties on and off short of joining the group that owns the facility. In-game coordination tools are horrid, even the devs tell us to use Discord for better communication. I don't mean joining squads in Foxhole, I mean one-off communications with people you probably aren't going to see again coordinating just for the 1-4 hours you happen to play together with that isn't being right next to eachother.

The in-game "tutorial" is still a joke, if I didn't get abducted by a random dude on spawn island wrangling up newbies to teach, I would have refunded the game before it even hit an hour of playtime.

The game has so much potential being a one of a kind where you won't get large clans being the strongest by virtue of hoarding ♥♥♥♥ since time began. Sure there are still clans that hoard supplies en masse, but it ain't like EVE where you gotta play for 2 years before you can join an existing group. And with the end of a war comes with the GREAT RESET, where the technology tree randomizes and resets captured territory reverting to starting war state and we get to do it all over again.

TLDR; Devs don't even communicate at all with the community nor even tell us why they don't communicate anymore while implementing balance changes no one asked for certain things.

I do enjoy this game. It's hardcore with units getting 1 shot normally even vehicles

But I keep crashing every single game.
It used to be that I only crashed occasionally. But it's every single ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game now.
I play this on Linux and it ran fine just that playing campaign solo was impossible due to autosaves making me crash always.
But mp worked ok only occasionally crashes.

Now I can't get through 15 minutes or even 5 minutes without crashing in-game.
