This game, to my surprise, turned out to be one of my most favorite JRPGs I've played. I just got into Digimon lately, and did play a lot of Pokemon in the past, but I have to say this game surpassed probably almost every Pokemon game I've played. (I didn't want to do any Digi-Poke comparisons on this review, but I guess too late there.)

The way you gather your creatures by scanning was a fun concept to me, and being able to digivolve and also dedigivolve ended up being fun for me. I would recommend to everyone reading this to get 200% on a scan, will definately help with getting Mega's as they require different ranges of ABI stats.

The gameplay was like your typical RPG. You had your Skills with different Elements, and even Digimon had their own three way typing system alongside the elements. Combat is turn-based in this game, where you use up to 3 Digimon in battle, and can swap out from your other 8.

There's also a Memory System, which increases as you beat bosses in the main storyline, do quests, or pick them up from chests in multiple areas of the game (There's guides online). Memory can limit the amount of Digimon you have in your party, which could very much depend on what stage(?) they're at (Fresh (IT1 in this game), In-Training (IT2 in this game), Rookie, Champion, Ultimate, Mega).

I also recommend grinding if you're struggling in a fight, or fitting certain Digimon or digivolutions into the party when you can. The Digi-Farm also works great for training stats onto your Digimon, but it did feel easier to go to the EDEN Enterance to get items that lower trained stats or change a Digimon's personality so they train the right stat easier or faster.
Also recommend using the Develop system on the Farm in order to get Tactician USBs and PlatinumNumemon to put in two or three slots of the Battle Digimon for more EXP.

The storyline was one of my favorite parts of this game. It was beyond what I expected, and I cried at the end of both games. Hit me in the guts. It was a perfect way for me to start off in the Digimon franchise, as I also started to watch Digimon Adventure.

Honestly if it weren't for my boyfriend showing me Gammamon clips on Ghost Game, I don't think I ever woulda looked into Digimon and discovered probably a hidden gem among the many JRPGs out there.
And sorry for the long review with random uneeded tips from time to time. I want other players to enjoy this game too. It's fine if you don't enjoy it though. I think I just love this game too much-
