This game has been very charming and I've enjoyed many hours of time on it, primarily in a vanilla setting. Unfortunately, there are little to no real vanilla multiplayer servers that actually exist. I feel that official servers would be a great addition. That and many other changes.

The main reason for recommending against the game is due to the recent removal of certain curated map creators main source of income from their respective maps, as well as general unfair treatment by Nelson to important members of the community. Hopefully, things can be reconciled. There are still ways to revitalize this game for the future.

I recommend this game if you have an innate desire for chest pain and unchecked aggression.

EDIT 2:

I remember many years ago, installing this game with such an excitement to explore the many vehicles. For a solid time, I enjoyed the game, never really looking in depth at the mechanics, just cruising along casually. I played for around 3 years, before a long hiatus due to life changes.

Many years down the line, a friend had re-instilled my interest in the game. I had many vehicles, but I decided to start fresh with Italy. (Colossal Mistake) Through this journey, I began to look much more in depth at the mechanics of the game, to get a leg up on my enemies and to compensate for Italy's absolutely outmatched vehicles.

As I got higher in BR and rank, I would make less and less money per match. Sometimes, I'd lose money outright despite low death counts and positive kill/ death ratios. This was months ago. The issue in economy is now even more intense, and repair costs have gone UP. It's clear at this point in the game that Gaijins only main incentive is to make as much money as possible off of peoples purchases.

I have a love-hate relationship with this game. There is no game like it, and that gives the devs the ability to make any changes they desire, be it harmful or helpful. All in all, a lot is missing from the game as far as passion from the devs, and at this point in time, I can't recommend playing this game to anyone who doesn't want chest pains.

EDIT 3:

While things are beginning to look up, I still have a few gripes about the matchmaking, and balancing of certain vehicles/ BR brackets.

8.3 is a prime example of this, as vehicles from the cold war that lack STABs, LRFs, or any form of ERA or composite are often matched against vehicles that do. It is a problem that has been apparent in certain nations, and now it is even more pronounced.

People that respond to ♥♥♥♥ with "Skill Issue" are people who haven't played blatantly
over-tiered nations.

"Just play another nation bro!"

I don't have time.

Early Access Review
It's not common that I leave a review on the games I play, unless I really, wholeheartedly enjoy them. This is one of those games. Prepare for an unstructured dump on my most prevalent thoughts.

Within the first 2 weeks of owning the game, it essentially grabbed me by the balls. You can sink hours into this game, as it has a seemingly infinitely re-playable nature, where no one step is linear and the path you choose to acquire your equipment is open to the users paradigm.

The combat of the game can make you feel like a beast among helpless prey, or a mere David within a world of Goliaths. (You will very quickly see what I mean.) Ultimately, quick wit and good timing can win you many fights, but like any survival game, preparation is one of the paramount factors of this game.

For an early access game, this is quite simply, the most polished early access game I have ever played. I can't name one major bug, aside from enemies on VERY RARE occasion spawning inside of or getting stuck in rocks, and attacking through them.

This game will offer you hundreds, if not thousands of hours of content, and better yet, you can waste your lives with your friends as well. A vague review, but I believe the content this game has to offer is best discovered for the first time, on your own. You will never have a boring day in this game. (Okay, maybe one or two but it's a survival game.)

Hugin will never truly vanish. He watches, waiting for the moment to strike you with his cacophonic factoids. Be vigilant, and enjoy Valheim

This game has made my balls retract into my ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ gut. Excellent story line, lethal and unpredictable enemies and of course, impeccable timing. I'd be out hunting the lizards, and all of a sudden, a banshee shriek comes from the forest and I sent scrambling back to my feeble base. The game puts you in an environment that is so immersive you'll stay up until 10 am playing. (True story.)

Sorry for the extra ass review, but I truly believe this game is worth every penny.

PRO TIP: get fried and play at night.

This game is undoubtedly a diamond in the rough. With advanced mode out, people get to express their creativity and ingenuity in this brilliant simulation of vehicle construction. With over 500 hours on my belt, I have seen this game grow with its community, and all the positive feedback it has been receiving. unfortunately, this game is often passed over by its peers, as people don't tend to play enineering games. However, the ones who do play this game are some of the best people i have spoken to. If you are reading this review, please take my word for this. You will not be disappointed.

----AN EDIT----

I still have faith and hope in the Stormworks Devs in that they care to fix Stormworks and make it more fun by actually being *playable.* I can hugely appreciate these kinds of small update efforts they make. It's just that other people believe they should completely prioritize optimization efforts and make it the paramount focus, which I think is a solid idea and will enable far more content than ever before. Additionally, this will save the devs from having to patch the holes their unstable engine creates whenever new ♥♥♥♥ gets implemented. I have faith and optimism, it will be a while, it will be difficult, but it is possible to fix Stormworks and it's inherently broken engine.

Side note, the hitboxes are okay, they work, but they also limit you with occasional unreason. Maybe the devs can address these too, in a "Hitbox Optimization Update"

CURRENT STATE EDIT:

Many mistakes and decisions have lead this game down an ever darkening path. The most recent Space DLC being one of them. In general, while I love the game and what it brings, it seems as though the development team has their priorities backwards, and is trying to extrapolate money from the playerbase.

A lot is brought by the game; yet a lot is still missing, which makes it difficult to recommend.
