I have 355 hours into this game, so some of the game play has been enjoyable. The underwater graphics are well done and the overall concept of the game is ok. I do love running around on my boat checking out all the islands and underwater areas. But there are a lot of serious issues that take the fun out of the game completely, at least for me. First, let me say I instantly turn off the raid functionality. I am a builder and love to build nice looking home bases with a lot of the furniture pieces you find or can build, but spending all my time fighting off enemies and then repairing just in time to fight off more enemies doesn't give me any time to explore. Plus all the mats it takes to fortify the place is another issue. Secondly the new weapon system totally sucks! You collect all these broken weapons for them to ONLY give you blueprints, most of which you already know, only to take them to this place called Dreadville and fight through tons of enemies to get to this blueprint recycler. Then you feed all these blueprints that took up all your storage space getting to Dreadville into this machine and it spits out one bloody blueprint that you already know!!! Useless. And to top it all off, the quest to clear Dreadville doesn't work and you spend days and days trying to find one last enemy that is glitched into the wall only to have more spawn while you're looking for that one. Of course that halts the rest of the mission progress because you can't complete the quest. Then there is the crafting system....the sheer volume of mats it takes to 1) research an item, and then 2) build that item is ridiculous. The worst example has to be the large air tank, which is pretty critical in a game where you spend a great deal of it under water. Finding the copper and iron ores, which definitely don't spawn as often as the enemies respawn, is cumbersome and you need a LOT of it. I play a LOT of crafting/building/survival games and while it can be very grinding collecting mats to build things, this game seems to compound the issue by having you build lesser items first that are required to make the better item (i.e. air tanks). I do have to say that there is a vast improvement on the battery life, so thanks for that. At least my headlamp will last for most of my exploration day now whereas before I had to carry 3 batteries with me just to explare one location. There are other little things, like the fact the visibility from the faster boats makes them hard to drive or the fact that they don't have larger storage capacity so it doesn't really pay to even build them. And no storage on the jet ski?? Really? Plus the storage space on the backpack (level 3 of it mind you) is still way way way too small. Oh and it sure would be nice to have something other than blue, green, and yellow wallpapers which look dirty by the way. Don't get me wrong, it's better than those trashy metal walls, but still doesn't give my base a nice clean look to it. And unless you turn off raids, don't even bother using the glass walls. Waste that they aren't even bullet proof. I know this post sounds like there isn't much good to owning this game, but if you can live with the hassles, then it can be very fun to play. I do have 355 hours into it so it couldn't have been all bad right?! At least there is the customization to make the game easier or turn off raids or set some of your play style before beginning the journey. Whether you decide to buy the game or not, I leave that to you, but the Devs definitely have a LOT of work to do if they want people to hang around and replay the game very much once they run into the various glitches and grind that I have. Good luck!!

Update 11/3/24: After playing another 33 hours, I'm still not changing my recommendation. I do love playing this game so I put up with a LOT!!! The most annoying thing right now is the constant crashing. Usually I'll see it start to flash the screen and I know to save and get out and let it crash and restart, but sometimes I just don't see it coming and <sigh> I loose progress I haven't saved. It's pretty frustrating. I think it's tied to Steam because Steam crashes too. Secondly, I was hoping there would be improvements for blueprints in this "overhaul release" but alas I think it's just gotten worse. After an additional 33 hours I have yet to find the motorboat blueprint that is usually around the beginning island and I just made my first hunting rifle as the parts are hard to come by after struggling to get the advanced weapons workbench unlocked. And last, closing up a lot of the buildings and reducing the loot when underwater has made that venture not very enjoyable. There seem to be more sharks and less loot and as I've seen others write, it's forcing us on land but without appropriate weapons, we're going to die a lot. Also not fun. All the new graphics underwater is actually not so helpful and I think it's overdone now. Harder to find things. So my recommendation stands. While I may put myself through numerous eye-rolling, I wouldn't necessarily recommend this game in it's current state and I hope the devs get their act together!

First I have to say I have over 800 hours of playtime in ARK: Survival Evolved and have played almost every different MAP so I was very excited when ARK: Survival Ascended came out. But now I've tried playing it multiple times and I'm really disappointed. The trailers make the graphics look awesome, but I can't get past Medium settings on my hard core gaming PC without major lag. I'd love to experience the graphics, but it's so blurry at Medium that ASE was better, clearer, and easier to fly around and see what's on the grounded below me. Secondly, while I do enjoy the Mod feature the game has integrated, it's still too soon for most of them to be entirely stable and valuable in game play. Sad to see a lot of the building mods like ECO, Structures +, and other building architectures are not even there yet. And lastly, this game has crashed on me multiple times every time I play....just locks up and freezes so I have to shut it down the hard way to close. The error/debug boxes don't even come to the forefront so you can click OK and close them normally. Overall....this game is expensive and huge to load and REALLY needs to GROW UP before I invest any more time in it. Sorry devs....but get your act together if you want this game to survive. (Pun intended)

Great fun either alone or with others. I have built a raft from scratch and followed the story line half a dozen times as I just enjoy sailing around and building. I have to admit I do most of my builds on peaceful mode so I can choose when I want the fights, but that's just my play style. I appreciate that there are different modes for different play styles. I do wish creative would actually let you move though as it would be fun to free form build something and see if it actually sailed correctly. The Final Chapter was great. The puzzles were challenging and sometimes frustrating, but doable even alone. I did not complete the wind wheel jumping puzzle though and was glad there was a way around it. Overall this game is a lot of fun!

I have to say that this is one of the most challenging and versatile games I've ever played. It kept us on the edge and even those who spectated us had a lot of fun. The constant variety of challenges, locations, and creative story ideas along this path was simply amazing!! I kept wondering when it would end and it just kept going and going with even more amazing content, graphics, and story line. I can't say it enough...this game was totally worth every penny and I would definitely play it again with my friends. Great job development. You hit this one out of the ball park!!

Great game. I love all the story lines and it keeps you very busy in many areas - crafting, gathering, social, etc. I completed it once and am playing it again it's so much fun! I can't wait for the next release DLC to come out. And multiplayer would be freaking awesome!!! Thanks for a great game!

So much fun! The graphics are great. The story keeps your interest. And the building is diverse and unique enough that you can build a really cool base, or two, or more!

Such great mechanics and the building is easy. Your imagination is really your limiting factor as long as you are willing to grind out the materials to make what you need (in Survival Mode). Would definitely recommend.
