I'm conflicted about this game.... Overall I think I would still recommend it despite all the flaws and issues I had with it. I had fun with the game and completed it with 50/52 achievements on my first play through. I would maybe recommend getting it when on sale if you're on the fence and to EVERYONE... avoid the "Deluxe Edition" entirely. There is much better transmogs available in the game.

PROS:

I find the (MAIN) story's themes quite entertaining and intriguing as a "some what" new Dragon Age fan. I got into the series with Inquisition which also seemed like a divisive game at the time but still enjoyed it and this one too. I'm a sucker for the whole establishing relationships with side characters in games, seeing how they progress/effect the story, and then seeing how they pan out at the end. (a die hard Persona SIMP)

The combat was good imo. I played as a warrior and the play style.. for me... reminded me of "God of War (2018)" with X & Y combos with the ability to charge attacks, "B" to dodge", a shield throw (like the axe throw), and abilities/runes that provides buffs. They have an interesting take on how to use abilities in the games that when I first tried seemed a bit awkward to use but gradually made sense and added onto battles.

The graphics and visual designs are great! This is the best looking hair I've seen in any game so far. Each area in the game is visually different, stunning and look great! Armor and weapon designs were cool with some having multiple colors options.

Life of Quality: The biggest thing I hate in games like this is when you need certain abilities or characters in your party to access specific areas or to complete a puzzle. This game give you a dagger that allows you to use your companions out of combat abilities to complete puzzles. I LOVE THIS addition in the game. Nothing I hate more than wasted time due to stuff like that. Having to go back to a respawn/fast travel point to replace party members just to walk back to the same puzzle only realize you forgot the other party member you need is such a drag. Also this way you can keep who you actually want to play with in your party rather than play around who you need in your party at specific points.

CONS:

The writing is probably mine and others biggest issue with the game I think. The side story reviewers said were like mini main stories and "worthy of a main protagonist". To me they just seemed like standard side stories and weren't all that impressive. The most accurate analogy I heard is its "CW writing". Writing you would hear on some quippy, over the top, but also trying to take its self WAY to serious TV show on the CW (and I'm not even talking about the "woke" stuff). Overall it just seems either lazy or to forced. There are so many lines and dialogues that made me want to roll my eyes.

As for the "woke" stuff. I have no problem with the idea of Taash in Dragon Age and I don't mind that they are non-binary. BUTT why did Bioware have to do them so dirty and write their character so poorly? I feel like they shoe horned them into handling ALL the "woke" issues people have with the game. They use them to explain how to apologize for misgendering, how they handle cultural differences between races, how/why they ethically steals from ruins, etc. I feel they could have dialed it back or had others companions explain it instead so they weren't all focused on Taash. They also wrote them as a moody and kinda boring character imo. They typically only answers in a one or two word responses with no elaboration. You could ask her "How did you get that weapon?" and they would reply "dont know" and thats the whole dialogue for that scene... They also seem emotionless through important events. Even when something impactful happens, like a character dying or explaining hard things, she just says "Yeah, it happens", shrugs, and walks away. The only time you really see emotion for the character is anger during her side story. That said, I feel like I go into more detail on this, but I wont as I and many other have already said so.

Lastly, the game need some optimization I think. First issue was the shaders, I had to wait about 40 min for the initial shaders to download when I first launched the game... and that's on top of having to download the game after launch too since they didn't allow pre-loading. Then even after downloading the initial shaders each time you launch the game, it HAS to verify the shaders before you can continue to the main menu. I also ran into the game crashed on me twice during a big (and long) dragon fight that I had to COMPLETELY restart over on. Then as I progressed in the game my frames go lower and lower in each new area. Toward the finale of the game, my frames completely died during the cut scenes too. Maybe that's my computer but it weird that the game could run so smoothly for me during fights with so many effects fly around but the standard cut scenes are running at 20-30 fps for me...

I enjoy this game. Only issues i have is that there is no easy way of unlocking gear. You have to unlock loot boxes for chances of new gear for ANY character, so you may only get Wonder Woman gear even though you don't play her. Also leveling up character's take FOREVER. For example it take's about 4-5 matches to get to level 4 on normal difficulty but takes like 7 more matches to her to level 6. If you are okay or like grinding then i highly recommend you play this game!
