This game has almost zero optimization, it runs like absolute hell although my PC meets the minimum requirements, and the fact this game takes up over 175 gigs of data is jaw dropping considering the game has the least impressive graphics I've ever seen for an AAA video game title, also it barley contains any physical interaction with objects and ZERO collision with characters and the environment, combine all this with mass amounts of audio bugs and glitches that almost seem intentional because of how easy to see they are.. Just don't waste your money on this, I would probably have kept this until they patched it up, but currently I can't play for more than 10 minutes without gameplay crippling lag- Unbelievable how Half Life: Alyx runs better than this, especially since that game is absolutely beautiful and has amazing physics, but only taking roughly 60 gigs, anyway just don't buy this unless you have a PC developed by NASA and have never experienced VR before, because this is what people envisioned when they used to say "VR is a gimmick"

Dead playerbase

uh.....

Obviously 'Walking Dead Saints & Sinners' is the superior game in this case, with better graphics, lighting, physics and overall just the freedom the game gives you, this game is the absolute opposite with very linear levels and no choices that will impact the story, the voice actors of Rick and Michonne sound awful to say the least (generic impressions) I do love that they got Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride to actually voice their characters, but it just feels a bit cheap without the other two.

The graphics are decent in my opinion, I just feel that the lighting makes everything look brown and cheap, gunplay, melee kills and such feel pretty satisfying and look VERY brutal, but the light-weight goat simulator-esque physics really throws it off, if you just added some weight and realism to the walkers physics, it'd really improve the gameplay experience. And as you can see I've played this game around 11.8 hours at the time of this review, I've found all the weapons (with the exception of 1), finished the story/scavenge missions and 100% built the town, this was all before the new update and I will get to that soon in this review.

Now this is going to be a very un-popular opinion but I genuinely enjoy this game for what it is, a simple, arcade-style, walking dead based game, and it's one of those games you can hand over to your friends if they are new to VR because it's simple, easy to learn and fun, sometimes I just want to run around shooting and killing zombies without a limiting stamina bar and tough survival gameplay. So if this is your kind of VR game, go ahead and get it, but I definitely don't think it's worth it for the price of $29.99, in it's current state I believe it should be $10 to $15 max.

Alright before I end this review I need to add a couple things, the gore in this game is pretty impressive, stabbing or shooting walkers will cause dynamic body and clothing damage, and sometimes creating holes and wounds that you can see-through, with intestines and other organs being revealed, which is absolutely EPIC for psychopaths like me who love video game gore done right. And about 2 days ago they updated and patched the game because of many suggestions and the negative backlash, and through the discord server I sent a lengthy 'paragraph' or two- of suggestions, asking for them to remove the mechanic of after you grab a walker and kill them, they instantly start dropping causing your arm to glitch/stretch, and I said they should just allow you to hold the walker and cut this feature out completely, which THEY DID so I'm really happy they listened to me and many others who left suggestions, big props to you Survios for that.

Anyway, this review is longer than I expected but I did have alot to say about it, negative and positive, if a member of the Survios developer team is reading this, I hope that you guys will add some sort of horde/survival mode for players who completed all the story and scavenge missions, and I feel like with the arcady-esque gameplay it'd fit perfectly with the game, so please consider adding this in the future. I payed $29.99 for Boneworks, I was only interested in sandbox mode and and survival, since I am not a big fan of puzzles and slow gameplay, and I like to be creative and play around with the games physics, for the expensive price after weeks of saving, I feel that I deserve to choose the game experience I bought the game for because I am supporting the developers with the purchase .. luckily I found a complete save where I could play the part of the game I actually wanted and I'm thoroughly enjoying the zombie/survival mode and the sandbox, well worth the money spent, and I would rather play the part I actually enjoy rather than doing hours of understandable but boring puzzle and gameplay. I don't like downloading saves and doing this, but the thing is most games give you the option to play the other modes because they understand that certain people prefer other things, why not let the player choose their experience? and I'm sure many other plays have just come to this game for the other modes because people love sandbox, and sandbox is super fun, but it's a lame idea to make people play through the ENTIRE campaign before allowing them to do these things.

If you are here for the modes I mentioned and just want to have some fun without the bore of hour long tutorials and crap, just look up 100% save and you'll surely find something on the internet. Apart from all the extra stuff, I do enjoy the game now, just please take my ideas into consideration because I'm sure many people have refunded due to this pointless stuff.

I'm going to update this review in the future if this game improves, but currently this game just feels like a bunch of boring, lifeless assets slapped together, and I know it's early access but you guys shouldn't be charging $25 dollars in it's current state, and it doesn't feel like you guys are making progress on it, I know you may be adding days and new weapons, but whats the point if the gameplay is clunky and boring? fix the issues this game has and then move onto the missions and weapons.

EDIT: As I promised in my original review, I would update it when significant changes are made, so the game has been released out of Early Access which means it should be a polished product right? (wrong) the game has many positives including a decent selection of weapons, classic postal humor and a creative story.. but that doesn't take away from the fact the game is janky at it's core, and numerous bugs are still present although it has been released out of early access, which I think was a ridiculous idea considering the frequent bugs players can run into and the unpolished gameplay.

The game's price has now been raised from 25$ to 40$ and I genuinely think it's only worth around 15$ because of how lifeless the game feels at times, the buildings don't even have NPC's inside them 90% of the time, and objects in the environment are not interactable at all which is really disappointing and ends up making the game feel cheap. One good thing I should mention is that many of the character models have been improved somewhat, although they still look very last gen and like they are made out of plastic, they still look better than when I first bought the game.

Anyway, buy the game off some 3rd party website or wait for a steam sale because after a couple hours of playing this game, you will have done everything there is to do, and seen everything there is to see. It seems they will keep frequently updating the game regardless of the fact it's out of early access, but I doubt they will completely overhaul the core mechanics that need to be fixed (like the janky shooting/melee combat).

PS: I will update again once I feel there is enough added content/patches.

This game is an absolute steal for $0.99 and it is genuinely fun to play with friends and just have some good 'ol gory pig shooting fun. The graphics aren't the best, but I find that it adds has a certain charm to the game, and it feels like one of those redneck games from the early 2000's and I absolutely love it. Now there are a couple issues and things I think should be updated, such as the decals on the pigs not being dynamic, and the "reload animations" being quite lazy, basically the character mimes reloading the the gun, and I think there should be more guns but for the price you can't say much, you are given a decent amount of content, and the gameplay is a good time waster. I definitely would buy this.

Very impressive game for the "price" and I genuinely mean I am impressed, this experience had me screaming at some points due to the unexpected appearance of human sized spiders and mutated naked creatures, the game feels extremely immersive due to beautiful graphics, amazing sound design and the overall sense of dread you feel from standing alone in a dark, gritty somewhat futuristic subway station.

The game is very short, with a playtime of 0.6 hrs to complete (in my case), there is a scoring system and different difficulties, but it feels like something that should only be experienced once, unless they are planning to add more to the game or update it, In my opinion there isn't really much replayability. But if you haven't tried this game before, I recommend giving it a go, whats to lose? it's absolutely free.

So just as an extra note, massive props to the developers for putting so much effort into this, you can really see that they were passionate about this project, and also thank you for scaring the living hell out of me, video games don't do that often, and this will be something I remember.
