My wife and I stopped at this establishment for a lunchtime sub. We both ordered a #2 - "Big John". I asked if they had hot peppers and whether they were chopped, sliced or whole. For dietary reasons, I cannot eat the pepper seeds so I always ask for sliced or whole whole peppers on the side so that I can easily remove the seeds; I have done this for decades at hundreds of establishments across the country with nary a problem and did so here as well. "Can't do it ! Not allowed. Corporate policy - have to insure the quality of the product. If I do it I'll get fired!!" the GM said. Huh? Run that by me one more time please - I want to make sure that I understood that correctly. "I can put 'em on the sub, but I can't put them on the side!!" he said again. I asked how putting the peppers on the side would effect the quality, but there was no answer except "Sorry !" If they hadn't handed my wife her sub while I was having this conversation, I would have walked out the door but felt somewhat obligated to stay since she had her sub in hand. I asked for the district managers name, phone and e-mail address and fired off an inquiry about this absurdity to Jason McHugh area manager of CWL Investments. I got a prompt reply that confirmed that Jimmy Johns associates are not allowed to put any ingredients on the side. "This is a policy that is in place and used to ensure the quality of the product being given out. Also we do no carry any containers in the stores to gave out the product on the side. This is a very strict policy that stores know they must enforce at the units." Somehow, in this day of "Have it your way!" everywhere and the fact that I wasn't trying to be a wise guy here, I'm at a total loss why a legitimate dietary need could not be met. I ate the sub and it was OK, but would have been better with some hot peppers on the side. Ironically, the chap behind me in line asked for no tomatoes on his sub. Apparently there is no corporate policy regarding tomatoes but it's doubtful that I'll be back anytime soon !!
