I was given this game by a very good friend, irl and online, of mine that used to play this game but no longer really did. They gifted me this game, and at first I was having a blast. I had lots of fun, and at some point I was loving it so much to the point of actually SPENDING money inside the game, on stuff like scrolls and cosmetics. I still to this day will miss my Edgar Poe skin. Of course, the game had flaws; some roles imo were OP, or some roles were underpowered (Investigator/Sheriff still was a meme lol). However, there was 1 issue I had. It was never the game, but instead.. BTOS.
I tried out BTOS once. Ignoring how dead it was, it was- to me- incredibly unfun. Many of the roles were not great, and the only enjoyable thing I liked was double TT (and overall most of their TT content). When it came to roles like.. Lets say, you know, ORACLE AND INQUISTATOR, I couldn't find myself having fun. So, I left it; it was fine though, as BTOS isn't TOS2. So, of course, the problems were NEVERRRR gonna arrive there!
...Haha, no. After taken by another company I can't fully recall the full name of currently, things kinnnnda went downhill for me. The game was in a scary place of "Is this gonna continue? How much will they change? How reliable is this company?" Etc. I have no comment on the actual company themselves, old or current; I only have comments on the game, and what occurred after. They released, what I like to call, "BTOS2 for all!" They added Oracle, they removed Pirate and made them an Inquisitor (not even adding a Inquisitor role, just outright removing the OG role's identity), they made Executioner a- bluntly- more unfun role for others that aren't the Executioner themselves, they nerfed NEs down to hell after N3 (forcing NEs to get a win D2 or D3, of which almost all NE roles- especially Doomsayer- can have really hard times to achieve), they absolutely demolished NAs (yeah, no, not even a Baker update- still to this day there isn't 1- but there is in fact a NA DEBUFF, and they made sure SOLO NAs ONLY!), they nerfed TPs slightly with the healed message, they made Deputy BTOS' version of Deputy (of which is absolute GARBAGE, and despite many complaints of the role in BTOS and in TOS2 it still remains the same), Poisoner.. God, isn't even a POISONER anymore, just to enforce their whole "SMOG" and "UNKNOWN OBSTACLE" mechanics; Rit and Witch/Potion Master combos were effectively removed and even a detriment to the team now (with Rit getting even more unneeded nerfs; listen, it was OP, but not THAT OP to warrant this), and Spy is a worse LO.

This update was sure to divide the community. Whether they knew that or not, they continued, and did this update; and unfortunately, I am one of the few who HATED this update. Its unplayable for me now; I've played a few times after (not a whole lot), yet each experience has been getting more and more irriatiable to me. Many TOS-focused youtubers seem to even be feeling the same, with many outright just.. Quitting, or complaining of how much transactions there are in this game. Not only that, but the game- a while now- still has refused to properly address game throwers, and now its gotten worse with Hangman (A WHOLE MECHANIC AND ANIMATION) being removed. Now, Prosecutors and Vigilantes can have a fun time shooting a teammate, and face no repcrussion. This is NOT how this game should go.
Later on, they reworked Mayor and Monarch too, and.. they just ruined Mayor, really. All those videos of "1 VS 1 mayor clutch!!!" are effectively gone in current day due to how it works now, and Monarch got such a unneeded buff.

There has been more updates, I am aware. Some of them I know and hate- like changing Escort's and Consort's name (no, I'm not a horny person (ok I sometimes am)) as this was such a unneeded change to a beloved game that shouldn't have been touched outside fixes to lobby leaving-spammers/game throwers (STILL HAVE NOT BEEN WORKED ON)- and others I don't know, as some point I entirely gave up on the game.

5 months later, I finally decided: I am done with this game. This is unfortunately the truth now. Ever since the "BTOS" update, it feels like its only gotten worse, and with them ignoring many of the game flaws in favor of making it more complicated and letting the vocal minority (or just BTOS minority) speak I cannot handle it anymore. I wish I never spent money in it, but I know I can- and never will- get refunds. This game was good once, imo, but now I can't imagine it ever getting good again.

If you are ever interested in this game and somehow spotted this comment- and read all the way to the end- I highly recommend you watch videos starting this year, and not videos last year. You will get a better view of the game that way, know what you're heading into, and then you can decide if you wish to spend a whole hefty $20 (and maybe more) on this game. As for me, and most others in the pre-BTOS era, this is no longer the game we bought for, yet that shouldn't deter new players trying to test the waters.

TL;DR: "BTOS update" ruined enjoyment, developers continue to refuse fixes to gamethrowers/lobby spammers and continue to make it worse, developers continue to add updates many don't ask for or a (vocal) minority asked for, yet new players should still read 2025-era videos of TOS2 to decide whether or not they would like this game (not 2024-era and beyond).

Edit Same Day, Looking at Other Reviews:
Apparently, they have been muting and deleting, if not outright banning, people with negative reviews or criticism? There seems to be plenty of evidence for this too. If this is sadly but truly the case, then I suppose I am even more glad I left this game; I admittedly was not even aware of this occurring. I was just upset about the update.. Sorry for those effected.

I like this game. Like alot. But i did realise that no mattter what Rockstar Foxy is active.






P.S. I found a scary and annoying easter egg. BB who look shadowiedfied waws going all over the place and freaked me out. (shadow BB?)

This game is good i just wish we could get cunstom night right when we finshied 5 nights, and i also wish night 4 was more easier.
