As of right now, its very barebones and not really worth $10, in the future it might get better, but for now id look for something else until it gets more... well content.

Get it, and play until you at least beat the Cathedral/Sheol, and if you like it; your welcome.

The game isnt terrible, but theres a few gripes I personally have

A: The lack of any form of matchmaking makes the entry experience really really bad, if im a fresh install I should NOT go against a 4 man who all have over 1K hours in the game

B: You cannot pick who you play: If I want to just play as the ghosts, I shouldn't be forced to play Hunter first, and I shouldn't be forced to play Hunter if I queue up again.

C: Based on the little experience I have and what others have told me, the meta is really unfun, as a Ghosts your only option is to instead of hiding, to instead just find the smallest prop and try to dodge every attack until Midnight. As Hunter, its to just use Harpoon/Flame Thrower since they are easy to land hits with.

D: This game is super... SUPER unfun solo queuing, but on the other side its also super unbalanced when squadded up.


TLDR: The game has a lot of issues (As expected of a game that JUST released, so this all is subject to change) if you want a good experience I would actually hold off for a few months at least and let the game receive some much needed changes, the developers from what I have heard are very active and want to see the game succeed, so if it gets better (As it likely will) I will probably give it another try in the future.

Its pretty cool, without spoiling anything it may be one of the best DLC ive seen for any game ever.

The gameplay is honestly not bad, especially after the removal of the wellness system and the old crafting system the game is very enjoyable (Albeit a tad bit grindy, but thats something that can be fixed with server settings if wanted) however I sadly cannot recommend the game until they fix the very very VERY poor optimization and the memory leak issues

(Its gotten so bad with recent patches that it crashes my entire setup, which keep in mind is by NO MEANS a bad setup, able to run most games with ease, 7 days is the one of the only games I own that surpasses 80% memory usage, with it hitting 95% almost the entire uptime, even just in the main menu.

Until this is fixed, I sadly cannot recommend it to anyone.


Edit: I have decided to edit this review slightly, I am leaving the old text up because why not, but I have some even newer things to say about this absolute gem of a game.


Somehow, in the several years it has been since my review they have not only managed to not fix the optimization issues or memory leaks that exist in the game, but by some maricle of god have managed to make it even worse.

I got a new pc, which was able to run the game fine for at least a few hours (until the memory leak issues came rearing their ugly head again, because these devs just love us so much), but ever since one of the new updates (I dont even care to find out which one), it barely even launches properly anymore.

Just... why? I shouldn't have to spend $3000+ on a new pc to run this game (hell my current one is $2000+, just how??????)

To begin with, this game by no means on a gameplay standpoint is terrible, but its missing a lot of things that made 1 and 2 really nice.

For example, this game heavily buffs weapons but nerfs traps which takes a lot of spirit out of the game imo, this is pretty easily fixed by just changing damage numbers, cooldown times, etc.

Another thing I dont like is that this game is missing a lot of details in the traps, for example in OMD 1 and 2, the wall grinder trap would actually pull orcs inside of it and, well grind them to pieces, but in the game they just kinda burst, not to mention some traps (like the snow cannon) completely lack animations.

And the survival mode in this game (infinite waves for those unfamiliar) they HEAVILY reduce the money you get (Which may of been a thing in 1 and 2, but MUCH less extreme) which makes the game mode super unenjoyable to me, the main thing I loved about it was eventually gettings these massive fortresses of traps, twists and turns and seeing how well you could truly optimize such a contraption, but this games lack of viable trap options and dps, combined with it relying on the weapon more than the traps, makes this mode go from one of the most fun tower defense experiences to date, to very short lived and frankly disappointing.

And to top it all off, the dance animations in this game are actually horrible, in the first 2 games it had a lot of character but in this one, its very unfitting.

If you are a seasoned Orcs Must Die veteran, then you will most certainly find some joy in this game, but if you are just starting to look into Orcs Must Die, honestly look to the first game, or the second if you want co-op, at least until some things change.

First few runs of this game are fun, but its early game is super super boring.
It has a great soundtrack, the late-game where you are just building a massive self sustaining raft is super enjoyable, but the early game (ESPECIALLY if you are playing with a friend or 2) are super super super tedious.

Not to mention completely losing runs to bugs is frustrating too (Like how the boars or whatever can do a 180 snap while charging up to 6 times from my experience, how touching a friend can cause them to get hit by the shark if the sharks under the raft, and many many more)

And there are some game breaking bugs that despite 4+ content updates have STILL not been patched.

If there more to do early game comes rather than just sitting around with a hook, and if some of these bugs are patched, ill likely change my review to positive, because it IS a good game, it just has a lot of issues that ruin it for me personally.


Edit: Right, almost forgot to mention, instead of actually expanding on the survival aspect of this game in a open way (you know, like the game was origionally designed for), they would rather add random linear puzzles that you have to do in order to progress.... in the open world non-linear survival game... very cool.

Pretty fun, however it is VERY important to keep in mind this games learning curve is pretty steep, and you may find yourself just unsure of what to do 90% of the time (Which what you should be doing is prepping for seasonal events like Winter and Summer) but once you learn how to actually play the game it can become a good bit enjoyable, especially with modding (Not counting the ones that make the game a cake walk those are boring)

First spawned in a biome that almost immediately killed me with heat damage.
Second spawned in one that almost did the exact opposite, and again gave 0 chance to learn anything other than "Guess i make a new world since i spawned in a biome i cant do anything in"

May change the review later, but very terrible first impressions when you just die off spawn.


Edit: Forgot to mention, but the game yanks your mouse around based on if you are moving right, left, up, down, or at all really if you do about anything while running it forces your mouse in that direction and it makes no sense at all, I shouldnt need to explain why the game moving your mouse when you dont want it to move isnt good design.


Edit 2: After some good old fashion testing, i figured out that you can solve most of the issues with the camera by going into first person. Although this doesnt solve the problem for people trying to play in third-person view, if you are like me and absolutely despise the camera being moved around without you making it move, this is a way to fix it (Assuming you enjoy first person)
Sadly first person has its own set of issues like extremely low FOV that doesnt seem to be able to be changed (Even by the FOV slider which may in fact be a bug)

After some further playing i figured out that to fix your suit, you must first fix the scanner, and then use that scanner to find fuel for your thermal shield.
This would be nice, but every time you make a new world you are forced to sit through a 40 second cut scene that for whatever reason seems to count towards your thermal shield going down.

I WILL SAY HOWEVER.
this game looks pretty and i love it, but please prioritize making something as basic as controls that are... well you know, actually controlled.


Its also good to mention that after you fix your ship and get your funny turbo light speed jets fixed the game does become a good deal enjoyable, the building mechanics are nice but they still need to fix the decade long bug of being able to sell your ship, then buy it back for free.

As much as id like to be able to recommend this game, the rocky start and janky controls in third-person combined with the jankyness of something as simple as the first person camera and lack of time to let new players learn at their own pace, there is much to be desired and is one of the few games ive played that start bad but get fun later in.

If these are fixed (By introducing suit hazards in a more user friendly way, and taking out the feature to move your camera on its own and fix the first person FOV, and fixing that economy breaking bug) then i would gladly recommend the game.
