Wow, where do I even begin? What an immeasurable disappointment this game turned out to be. The only redeeming quality is the community, which is insanely friendly. But aside from that, there are a lot of issues.

First off, this doesn’t feel like a Fallout game. There are no companions, dialogue choices don’t matter, and everything feels pay-to-win. On top of that, the developers charging a subscription for features that were free in previous games is beyond ridiculous.

If you’re considering making this your main game, I beg you: play an actual Fallout game or go outside instead. I went for the platinum trophy, and what a nightmare that was. Many achievements were bugged and required thorough knowledge of an ever-expanding map filled with unnecessary content. It’s as if they kept adding things just for the sake of it, without improving the core experience.

I could go on all day about what doesn’t work, how Fallout: New Vegas did almost everything better, and so on. My advice? Play New Vegas instead. Don’t waste $60 (plus a monthly subscription) on what is essentially Fallout 4 2.0 with microtransactions.

That said, I have to give credit where it’s due: the friends I’ve made through this game (shoutout to you, Mac) are some of the best I’ve ever met online. The community has that nostalgic, wholesome “2010s internet” vibe, and I absolutely love that.

But ultimately, even a 10/10 community can’t save such a bad game. For me, Fallout 76 takes what could have been an amazing experience and turns it into a frustrating mess. What should’ve been a crown jewel in the post-apocalyptic genre became a sour note at the end of an otherwise sweet series. I’d give it a 4.5/10—barely passing.
