idk how you can say this when multiple mods, added on top of the single player game, have successfully more or less implemented multiplayer. you even mentioned the latest and greatest, luna multiplayer. but these are mods, created by people without the source code the the actual game. The game engine is unity, it wont require a rewrite of unity. it would simply require an additional mode be added to the game that allows for 2 or more players instead of 1. it wouldn't be that hard if the team focused on it. The solution to the situation you described is once you're in orbit, you must sync with the player on the ground and not time warp while landing, that would be simplest. You could also just time warp as much as you want and land at the agreed on spot, then sync and you'd both appear near each other (hopefully not inside if you planned it right). This would be a little more dangerous but would allow for timewarping if u needed it. Luna multiplayer already lets you do this, barely.

Multiplayer in KSP will either require everyone to run at the same timewarp speed, or rewrite the game engine to allow for different people to run at different speeds, and this would be very weird if you're assembling a base with friends and one guy flies in at 4 times timewarp and the other lands it in normal speed, that would be weird, and mods are another problem.
