So, I decided to kill some time and try this game out, the idea of a game fueled by myths and conspiracies intrigued me enough, about 40 hours' into (so far) playing this game and, eh, it's not half bad. Word of advice though: Treat it like a single-player game. Forget the MMORPG part. If you're a nut for myths, legends, or conspiracies AND good storytelling, well...buckle up, buttercup. It's like a 'Da Vinci Code' fever dream, and who doesn't love a little Templars and Illuminati action?

The peeps I've met in-game are mostly lore-junkies roleplaying their hearts out and everyone's max level, playing dress-up, hunting shiny trophies, and cooking up unique builds. Yawn, right? Literally on my second day playing, I bumble into a gaggle of players doing their own little text-based improv show, roleplaying, in the middle of a haunted carnival, it was pretty entertaining to read while running around the amusement park completing my quests in the area.

Once you ditch the MMO mindset, this game pulls you in like a chimichanga at lunchtime. The lore? Amazing. The voiceovers? Muy caliente. The quests are no mere FedEx runs, kiddos. They're rich, like Tony Stark rich, with plots and narratives that'd make ol' Stan Lee proud. Feels like you're doing something different every time. Not that repetitive, 'kill 10 rats' MMORPGs usually feed you. Runescape, eat your heart out.

Here's the twist: this game doesn't hold your hand. You're gonna need to do some thinking, detective-style. There are times I've had to scribble notes or take screenshots for clues. Got puzzles and enigmas to solve based on all sorts of lore, background, and cutscenes. I'm talking full-on Indiana Jones hieroglyphics deciphering here. Cutscenes are the cherry on top, a bit like breaking the fourth wall - they connect the narrative dots, dropping hints, and well, the voice acting could give Nolan North a run for his money.

Anyway, Pros and Cons time:

Pros:

- Crazy deep lore and intricate storylines - it's like gaming Inception.
- It's free! Not even 'first hit's free', all of it.
- Cosmetic system's as unique as a unicorn, lots of dress-up options.
- Class system that is open wider than a hooker's legs. Seriously though think Runescape or an any topping pizza. You can do it all with one character.
- Mission variety: way more exciting than your usual mob slaying and pizza delivery quests.
- Beastiary's packed with all sorts of real-world mythos monsters.
- And the community? A bunch of ghost-chasing, tinfoil hat wearing loons. My kind of people.
- Almost forgot... You dont need to endlessly grind mobs to level. This is a Story focused game.

Cons:

- Microtransactions: "I'm touching myself tonight."
- In-game currency is tougher to earn than my respect.
- Quests and Missions demands engagement like a needy ex.
- Graphics are a bit ‘yesteryear’, less boo, more meh.
- Combat's a bit old-school, but so is getting hit in the face, and that never goes out of style.

So, if you're into riveting voiced stories, pretty landscapes, and putting on your detective hat, this game is your huckleberry. It's like those niche single-player games but you get to bring friends along. Go solve some mysteries, Scooby-Doo style!

Lost Light is the result of a wild gaming affair between CoD Mobile and Escape from Tarkov, dressed in the stylistic theme of Ubisoft's The Division. It's like a lovechild that inherits the best genes from its parents, making it a must-play experience for extraction genre enthusiasts. As a passionate gamer with over 100 hours invested, I can confidently say that Lost Light has me hooked, and there's no sign of slowing down anytime soon. With a countdown of 97 days until the next wipe, the excitement continues to build!

Now, let's address the elephant in the room: matchmaking. While some players have complained about the occasional hiccups in MMR matchmaking, it's hardly worth raising a fuss over. These issues are far from the norm and haven't dampened my enjoyment of the game. They're more like minor speed bumps in the fast-paced world of Lost Light.

One peculiar aspect that people tend to gripe about is the alleged hacking and wall-seeing abilities of certain players. However, these naysayers simply haven't delved deep enough into the game's mechanics. As you progress, you unlock the thrilling ability to briefly see players using thermal and radar technology. It's not a bug; it's a friggin' feature within the game! Embrace it and adapt, because in Lost Light, knowledge is power.

Let's clear the air on those mysterious .exe files that some players discuss. Rest assured, these files are related to the in-game VOIP chat system, which operates separately to ensure seamless synchronization with mobile players. It's a necessary component that enhances communication and teamwork, bringing players closer together in the battlefield.

In Lost Light, everything can be obtained through good old-fashioned grinding. Sure, there are items available for purchase with real money, but they mostly revolve around cosmetics and the premium membership, which I highly recommend if you're already heavily invested in the game. I've come across players who have acquired everything without spending a dime, while others have splurged hundreds of dollars. It follows a similar model to Warframe, so there's no pay-to-win shenanigans here.

In conclusion, Lost Light is a wild ride that embodies the chaotic spirit of CoD Mobile, the intense realism of Escape from Tarkov, and the atmospheric allure of The Division. If you're craving heart-pounding action and addictive gameplay, this is the game for you. Just remember to adapt, embrace the quirks, and enjoy the incredible journey that Lost Light offers. And with my countdown ticking, I working towards the next wipe, ready to dive back into the fray.

Update: Didn't have to pay a dime and was able to max out everything in just over 200 hrs of game play. The grind is not bad, a huge skill gap for PC players. You're either really good at these games or you're really not and thought that this game would be easier than Tarkov or Rust. As for me I'm sitting around 30m cash 3/3 Serums, and a 7.2 firefly K/D. I'd say that I got my fix from this game and enjoyed every minute of it. As for the other reviews out there, I'd say it's clearly a skill issue. D4 just dropped so I'm just about done for this wipe on Lost Light. Would still recommend this game to anyone that enjoys F2P games and enjoys the ever so spicy extraction genre.

Just remember at the end of the day it's just a game a free one at that.
Til next time!

UPDATE: Player base seems to be growing, some QoL updates seems nice, micro transactions seem to cycle in and out. Still fun but after reaching endgame on one season, you've kinda seen it all. Rinse and Repeat.

Launch had some funny bugs, but no where will you find this super enjoyable game play and immersive world. Looking forward to this game getting polished over the next year.
