EDIT:
Finished the game, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Great design, slick controls, great story, great performance. The anger towards this game is totally unjustified - except for the unlucky pc owners who had performance issues.

However - since it played perfectly well for me, I have no reason to complain!

ORIGINAL EDIT:
I wasn't going to leave a review for this game until I finished it. But seeing how there's so many negative reviews on Steam I wanted to try and tip the balance back into positive.

First of all - I'd rather not insult people, but frankly - most of the reviews here seem incredibly whiny, pathetically whinging, or just plain stupid.

1) The Day 1 DLC (that you get for preordering) - some of the items it gives you are limited to one use .....apparently. Personally, since it was FREE, I haven't really noticed and don't give a rats derriere. ALSO - this DLC gives you an extra mission, and other content. So whining about it seems the very definition of over entitlement in my book.

IT COST NOTHING TO GET THIS DLC....!!! But lets put the boot into an amazing game because we're a big bunch of crybabies....

2) It has performance issues....funny, I haven't noticed any. It amazes me how pc gamers sneer at the fixed architecture of consoles, and then give negative reviews for a game which doesn't run well on THEIR SYSTEM - despite these kind of problems being FIXED WITH A PATCH SOON ENOUGH......

Personally - this runs perfectly on my pc, which is nothing special.

SO: Moving past these issues - HOW DOES THE ACTUAL GAME PLAY?.....

The short version:
If you loved 'Deus Ex Human Revolution' - you can buy this in complete confidence. It's excellent.

The long version:
This plays flipping brilliantly, which is why I'm so sickened by the negativity it has managed to obtain here. The level design is superb, the controls are very flexible yet super slick, and everything has been enhanced from its predecessor. In short - its everything that a sequel should be.

'Deus Ex Mankind Divided' takes place in a future where some humans have mechanical augmentations, that enhance their strength / agility / allow interaction with machines for things like hacking / turn invisible, or even sprout explosive projectiles from their arms. Due to an incident in the previous game these augmented people are feared by society, and find themselves hounded by the police.

The hero of the game is Adam Jensen - a man given augmentations after he was critically wounded during the events of 'Human Revolution', and who is now currently part of a taskforce investigating a terrorist threat. However, this is just the tip of the iceberg - and much more powerful forces are secretly manipulating things behind the scenes, as the shadowy group 'The Illuminati' continue their plans to shape the world for their own ends.....

At this point I don't know how the overall story arc is handled, mainly because I've spent 8 hours just following side quests. Which have been very enthralling - well written, and always with the thrill of discovering little things here and there.

To have people saying this is a linear game is a joke - I haven't even done the first part of the main storyline at this point......'Mankind Divided' is a game I was wary of after its initial reveal trailer, but now that I've played it I feel very foolish to have ever doubted it.

Even if it does come apart towards the end (which I wouldn't know yet) what I've played so far is too magnificent to be deemed "bad", and those people who've criticised it should hang their heads in shame. Whether stealth is your thing, or a violent shoot out - the game will meet your needs.

Every inch of its setting is jam packed with options. At its most basic - you can shoot your way through the game. But maybe you'd prefer exploration - either discover a nifty route that bypasses obstacles, or maybe find a password that opens a door - or lets you hack a computer thats controlling cameras or security turrets. Maybe you'll just distract guards and stealth your way past.

In some scenarios you could bribe someone, or find a new piece of information that you can use. There's very few AAA games that offer this amount of freedom to how you approach it, and even fewer that actually have decent shooting AND stealth mechanics whilst doing so. 'Mankind Divided' does all of these things superbly, and I find it ridiculous that people still complain about it....no wonder most high budget games are so shallow and cr*p when the players are this hard to please!

In case my position on this game isn't clear - the eight hours I've experienced have been superb.
