No, the 19k hours is not accurate. It's closer to 5k. I tend to leave the game running in the background, so at least half of that time is the title screen, and another quarter is idling in a server.

No, luck I'm afraid. I haven't had as many problems with it lately, but I didn't do anything to change it. The only solution that comes to mind is to get a program that can set limits on the resource usage of other processes. The one I used to use was called process lasso, which got the job done but I think it's no longer free.
