If you had asked me a couple weeks ago i would have wholeheartedly recommended this game to you. Unfortunately the game has been becoming increasingly worse by the day, on one hand due to baffling balancing and gameplay decisions, on the other hand due to the increasing greed of bandai namco.

The Good

This game is fundamentally one of, if not the best fighting game ever. It looks amazing, large and diverse roster, gameplay is pretty alright (Balancing decisions aside (which should be an easy fix for the developers)) and it has one of the better fighting game story modes. Also the new replay feature is an amazing idea and helps a lot in learning the game.

The Bad

However there are alot of glaring issues:
- No punishment for disconnecting players, which leads to many plugging players --> competitive integrity of the game goes out the window
- Stupidly overpowered characters and moves (Dragunov, Azucena, Feng etc....) --> No nerfs and if there are "nerfs" they barely change anything (Azucena WR3,4 for example. This has now been addressed but its far from the only broken thing in this game)
- Game crashes (polaris error, i havent encountered this one myself but there are enough reddit posts)
- Extremely unbalanced Heat System --> In its current state the heat state is extremely unbalanced. It removes counterplay and makes Tekken more "masher friendly" then ever before. Many top players are getting frustrated with it and the "tight" mindgame-heavy gameplay from previous Tekkens is certainly not the focus anymore
- No Anti-Cheat
- Terrible communication by the devs (Apparently an Anti-Cheat is against the law. What?)
- Bare bones customisation mode compared to previous entries

The Ugly

I would be ok with those issues, because they are easily fixable. One thing that isnt fixable is the increasing greed of Bandai Namco:
- Announcing microtransactions after the game has been out for weeks
- Paying for DLC characters on top of an ingame customisation shop on top of a (absolutely ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥) battle pass in a 70$ game is quite egregious
- You are not able to take control of your own character in a replay if a DLC character is involved, unless of course you own the DLC.
- Bandai Namco is attacking the modding community, even for mundane things like QOL-mods
- Straight up no addressing of player concerns by the devs.

I would have been ok with ingame MTX if they were atleast decent. However importing old models from previous games, barely adapting them to the new game, is unacceptable. Another way to make it less egregious would have been including DLC characters in the battle pass (How it was in Tekken 7). But this is terrible.

Im extremely disappointed by Bandai Namco. This game had an amazing launch but literally every single update after launch has made it worse and worse. Save your money for other games. I heard Helldivers is pretty good. I think im going to stick with that for a while.

CS:GO Review
