It started off so good. Like, ugh IT STARTED OFF SO GOOD! Atmosphere great! Artistry absolutely beautiful. Puzzles made you think. No hand holding. I even forgave the slow walking of the game because the discovery of the clues and solutions were relatively well placed and gently subtle.

And then they weren't. Suddenly, I had an impasse where a solution was not clear and there seemed to be no clue for it. At some point non linear runs the risk of becoming to distant from the solution, as in I find a clue that won't make sense now, but down the line will, but if I find the solution too soon, I'll forget it during the process of solving other jumbled messes. Now the slow walking of the game trying to rediscover a subtle clue or clues becomes tedious. And I didn't realize that quick clicking was a thing (or maybe it wasn't I have no idea; I stumbled on two apparent clues because I was starting to frustratingly click on everything). After awhile I have no care for what happened to the father as the continuously slowing pace of the game made the urgency seem uninteresting. And after a time, the game felt pointless and I just decided the dad can just stay as whatever abomination he wanted.

So maybe this is for you, maybe it isn't. It is a pretty inexpensive game so it's not a waste of money to try it. But I do know that there are better puzzle games out there.

This is one of those games where I am flabbergasted that I am allowed to play this for free. The art style is very pleasant and well balanced to match the tone of the story being played and works very with with the timbre of the music all across the entirety of the game. If you like indie, if you like platformers, if you like achievement hunting...heck I downloaded the game just for the sentence "an abandoned plushy brought to life", so if you like plushies, play the game. It has ALL of that.

I cannot urge enough that people play this game. It's a point and click. It's $4. It's visceral. And it helped me to better understand a disease that is afflicting so many. I thought I knew what I was getting into. I even read up on Alzheimer's disease before playing/streaming it. But when I played this, I felt all of it. The fuzzy outlines. The fading memories. The struggle. I felt my heart breaking the whole game.

It's...well, it's a good game. To start, I am having a blast playing this game. The art is very cute and the world we travel through is pretty and well crafted and aesthetically pleasing. The humour is adorable and the characters are incredibly charming. I very much recommend this game to buy. BUT there are some things I would watch out for.

I play via controller. I think it plays better with a controller.

The battle sequences- I'm at just under 7 hours in, and I am not sure if the battle gets better or adjusts. As of now as far as I've played, it is turned (which I love), but the cards become a bit repetitive, so not real brain power there. You pick a card, you hit or defend or use an item or a special move. All that is fine, but it's missing that kind of skill-build that you would find in a turn based combat. A part of me kinda wishes they just took the trading card idea and went all in to a deck builder. Also there doesn't seem to be a good battle balance in the game. Like, I don't think this game should be super souls-like hard ever. But the enemies and the battle play just seem too too easy, and the bosses I fought aren't like tactics kinda of bosses. One was just repetitive until I finally whittled down its health which was slow as sin. But I know there is more to come so I will edit if that changes.

Sometimes the 2.5d nature of the terrain can be a bit difficult to navigate, but personally I don't think it's too distracting. Just takes a bit of getting used to.

I did find that the quests were sometimes hard to figure out a direction to find it so I wander a bit to find it. It you have patience to wander, that should be fine.

So this is a game I do recommend. It's cute, it is fun, it has loads of charm. It has flaws to consider, but overall, a playable game.

Early Access Review
So I am going to recommend this game, because it's Early access and it is free to play. It is a decent platformer game with basic run and shoot mechanics. Nothing too hard, plenty of potential, pretty art style. Lots of potential.

It does have some flaws. I played using controller and the Tutorial kept telling me that jump was LT when that was very clearly wrong. Fights are currently repetitive, no challenges there. But for me that was fine because it's clearly a project in progress.

My Biggest gripe is storytelling was mediocre and the voice acting was mediocre as well as sound audio balance was off (couldn't understand what the VAs were saying even with my volume up) The STORY was there, but it felt like it wasn't written by someone who had a story boarded plot in mind. Even in demo style games like this one, I don't think it is too hard to have a good trailer plot that is well thought out to create a sense of desire to know more through the game play. And the Voice acted lines were, in my opinion, disconnected; it felt like each line was recorded separately and then just cut and pasted together.

That all being said, not a bad start to this game's creation. I hope it grows.

The game is good. I'm not gonna say anything like, "totally worth the price" or "yo'll get x amount of hours out of it" or whatever I saw people arguing needlessly over. I will say, the art is beautiful, the atmosphere and ambiance are on point.

Instead, I'll tell you about me and how I played and enjoyed it. I love fishing in games. So much time fishing in Stardew, Red Dead, FFXIV...if there is fishing in a game I'll play the heck out of it. I fished more in Stardew than I did irl WHILE on a fishing trip. Dredge I played it on the steam deck only. It was a great game to lay down in bed or chill on the couch and play. The night time atmosphere still worked well on me on the deck. I did a lot of exploring, just driving the boat around trying to get all the fish in the game. Simultaneously, I did the main quest, slowly. As I explored, I did all the side quest while just going around fishing everywhere and looking for treasure and loot. Many times, I would play at night, right before going to sleep. The night atmosphere was very...experienced...then. (I jumped several times) I took time to actively search the waters for the fish, no hints or guides. I found places by accident and stumbled upon the solutions to side quests. At the time of this review I only have 5 achievements left. It's a great game for my achievement hunter habits.

So if any of that experience feels like something you'd do, then you'd probably enjoy this game too.

A fun free to play co-op game. The puzzles weren't overly hard (tedious at one point but not overly hard) We got through it with relative ease. I would say the only real negative bit was the voice acting. It was dry, bland, just bad. If the acting couldn't be better, I would have much rather had no voices at all and just let us read it to each other.

Other than that, we are looking forward to the next chapters.

I absolutely loved this game. I bought it after having read the premise of "love, loss, and fine dining." I also saw that it would be a very story telling instead of a puzzle-type game. Decided I would stream it because I love Storytelling games. And we all cried by the end of it. I recommend it very much, and I've been telling people about it since.

Regardless of what you believe as far as afterlife is concerned, it doesn't matter when it comes to the feelings of love, life, and loss. And this game is wonderful in keeping it centered around that. While the premise is relatively easy to understand, you come to the restaurant for a "last meal" of sorts, I did not expect the over arching story line that would interweave itself through that basic setting. It is a story that is easy to understand, easy to empathize with, easy to feel invested in.

As far as hidden gems are concerned, I am so glad I found this one .

I put this review in as more of a heads up. This game doesn't seem to work on ultra wide monitors. I saw in the discussions after I purchased it that someone else had the same problem where we couldn't get past the first screen. For now I'm returning, but if there is an update to fix this, I will gladly try this game again.

I'm not sure how this game is still slipping under the radar. The humour is well timed, the game mechanics are simple to get but still gives a good difficulty feeling, the art style is pleasant with a hint of nostalgic. You can just tell when you play it the amount of, as other reviewers have said, love and passion and I think also detail and energy went into making this game. I played it to completion over a year ago and I still love picking it up to just play. A great platformer game and well worth the price it has been set at.
