I think I’m in love with this game. It has been such a long time since I found an actual fun and exciting single player, open world game. I’ve never played the original DD, but I did hear about how it was an amazing game for it’s time. This game does a great job following up on it. But that doesn’t mean it’s perfect. I’ll get to that.

Now, moving on to the pros. I love the graphics. At times, I’m caught staring at the night sky, with the cities in the distance, or sitting on top of a random cliff, overlooking a village. Needless to say, it’s all beautiful and breathtaking. 9.5/10.

The gameplay is something I’ve never really experienced before, yet it feels natural. There are monsters out there that can one shot you. The smaller monsters tend to group up and attack you, which can leave you stun locked if not attentive. It’a little details like this which really gets me to love the game. When it comes to the villages and cities, you definitely feel the city come to life. The first major city is like a hub of commerce and trade. People moving around, guards patrolling, etc. All in all, it feels almost like a simulation of real life. Which I’ve seen the director state as such! Great job! 9/10

Story is an interesting story, albeit a bit played out. Probably the game’s weakest strong point. 5/10

Cons

Let’s start with the first and foremost obvious one. The performance. It’s abysmal. I have a 3900x as my cpu with a 4070 as my gpu. Outside of the city, I average around 40-50 FPS. In the city, it drops to 10-20 FPS. This is absolutely unacceptable. I truly hope they fix this issue as soon as possible. I highly recommend in the meantime to go to nexus mods and download the DLSS 3 FG mod. This thing boosted my FPS to much more preferable numbers (90-120 FPS outside the city and 50-70 FPS in the city). Note that this is only applicable to RTX 40 series cards. As for the rest of y’all, I have no other solution.

Capcom really just loves to slap Denuvo on every game they want. Obviously, Denuvo is a negative in my book. I have seen it tank performance in other games, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see its tanking the performance of the game here too. Capcom just doesn’t learn.

Probably the most divisive and misunderstood con I’ve ever seen. The microtransactions. Let’s start by stating some facts. No, this game is not p2w. You can play the game without the mtx and still be just fine. Besides 2 or 3 items, everything you seen in the DLC list is obtainable in game. And no, those items not obtainable are broken. They aren’t. Does this mean then that the mtx are ok and we should give our money to them? After all, it’s not like we are being threatened to buy them, it would just go to supporting the devs (yes I’ve seen this argument multiple times stated by many reviewers). No! Microtransactions are not ok, and will (almost) never be ok. Especially in a SINGLE PLAYER game that costs $70. It’s absolutely greedy of Capcom to not only charge us that much, but to also have these options here ON DAY 1. Shame on you Capcom, shame on you. And shame on all of you for defending a horrible practice on a great game like this.

Probably a minor gripe of mine, but I do feel that it needs to be said. When battling, there are some weird collisions that take place. It’s very notable when using skills like the fighter’s blink skill. The character would start to run in place, and you’d be left standing there for a good 2-3 seconds there. Unfortunately, I’m starting to notice it more and more I play. I hope the devs address this.

My final rating:
Gameplay: 8/10
Performance: 3/10
Story: 5/10
Graphics: 9.5/10
Would I recommend?: Probably not. The performance issues is very apparent. Unless you have a great computer, good luck running this game. I would recommend keeping watch of this game until they fix the FPS issues.

While it was overhyped, I do think it's still a good game. Can't wait for further mod support to make this game even better!

Fun game. Even if hackers and bug do occur, I still have lots of fun playing it. My only wish is that Valve sends more people to this game to make it way better.
