The game can get really grindy especially in the beginning, but it you keep an eye on your settlement issues, and you get your ai villagers going, especially a craftsman to make the tools the rest need, you get a little more free time to explore. Just allow yourself to make a few tries and try out a few different seeds to see what you like. I almost dropped the game completely on my first attempt because it was such a grind. It took me around 6 starts to finally get a decent start and feel out the game. Now, I really enjoy it.
