a captivating game with an expansive world, but i felt like i only played the first third of it, or have only heard about it secondhand.

liked :
art, voice acting, environment/bg, ost, writing, character systems, atmosphere
the sci-fi anomaly of the pale, the technology and workings of an alternate civilization

disliked:
-the type of cop you choose just results in different permutations of the same ending (there is only one actual ending, besides the 16 bad endings where you die)
-I feel like the real options were just being a good cop or a bad cop; helping civilians or being a ♥♥♥♥.
-how you build your character doesn’t matter that much, there’s just different flavor text that accompanies each of the stats
-in the late game, one of the main quests gave me trouble (checking the 3 possible locations). It was actually impossible to do this but I didn’t know that at the time so I got stuck, wandering around aimlessly. I would have liked it if the quests had less ambiguity, or at least know if it's even possible to do.
-the quests were not separated into main quests or side quests
-fast travel did not work most of the time
-too many loading screens, especially annoying when going through 2 back to back in order to get through a building (to Evart). My experience would have been much better if all the locations just flowed into each other like in an open world game. (idk how difficult it would be to implement here, but there are less moving pieces)
-I had to go into a building and exit in order to spawn the pig, i tried running off the location and back before to no avail.
-the made up terminology and jargon and history lessons were obtuse and unclear, too much to keep track of as well.

note:
-they censored f__t as a slur and left in f_g for smoke for the voice acting. I thought it was interesting that they censored this slur, and wonder why they didn’t make up a different slur or something since there are slurs that solely belong in the game. In addition, i was also looking up the people and terms in the game, wondering if they were real at times (they were not, i wasnt sure how much of it was fiction). Maybe their point would have gotten across better if they fictionalized other aspects of the real world besides race and basic politics so that i could follow the dialogue better with prior knowledge.

Also i’m stupid and listening to lectures about race theory concerning made up races… i kinda get lost. Having a notebook where all the important terms were kept so i could check back would have been a good quality of life feature. Like make up technology and sci-fi phenomena and politics for fiction, but keep a majority of the races and a majority of the political terminology nonfiction imo. Like i don’t even get the nuances of the lore, just the gist of things since i dont know what the ♥♥♥♥ anyone is actually talking about when they go into exposition spiel mode.

conclusion:
i wanted to see the rest of the world, but was cut short. This whole mystery set up the characters and environment with all of the world building and extraneous info picked up along the journey, but ultimately, no conclusion was reached besides the mystery: the plot plants a seed that would affect the entire world of disco elysium, however, the audience doesn’t get to see it through. To me, the mystery ended up being the least interesting part overall, and when it was over, the end was just the end.

its a good game tho, just not for me/ enough for me

not for me
did not get answers for the question arcs. (except for the short lines by a character that act as hints)
i did not care about the magic parts, they went on and on and were kinda juvenile.
the whole meta thing got sort of tacky with mysteries being used as attacks and such
i feel like the power and battles weren't balanced, like people arbitrarily won for the sake of the plot

there wasn't an answer, it's just open-ended
and i don't care enough to read the manga or the 10 hour video that covers this

fan of danganronpa and zero escape, and watched the 2000's higurashi anime so i decided to read the umineko VN since i thought i would like it.

i liked the mysteries in each episode (the tense and brutal events definitely spooked me), however, they are not resolved in the 2nd part (the answer arcs) so there isn't really any closure and it kinda feels like the author just didn't want to write out the endings so they left it open-ended for the reader to figure out except it's especially difficult to do so since each episode spans hours of reading time. It would have been more convenient if there was an option to go over each episode like in bernkastel's tale in ep8, where all the evidence is collected and the sequence of events is splayed out.

so ig i do not recommend this bc the answers to these mysteries are not told to you in the second part.
i do want the answers spoonfed to be me bc thats all ive been doing this entire "game", mindlessly clicking through dialogue
(but it would be better if it was a guess and check type method like in ep8 where the UI changed, so i could still have the chance to think somewhat)

Great fun game with replayability. Pixelated graphics add to the charm, and the concept of maiming or befriending the monsters you meet offer a variety of choices for you to decide. Encapsulating story, but the fanbase sucks lmao.

This game is a really intruiging puzzle game. I gave up on the first level becuase it was too hard. I'm only writing this review for pillar of community. This game is not that good. I didn't even buy this someone else gifted it too me. If you are smart and good at puzzle games and anthropormorphic rats then this is definitely the game for you. :). (Also i needed to play this game for 5 minutes to write this review but i only played for 3. I really cant take this for 2 more minutes though.)
