Don't waste your money or time on this. Devs have abandoned it years ago in a semi broken state, after breaking it themselves, and scrubbing out the previous versions.

It activates my autism. 10/10. Absolutely rage inducing.

While there is a decent amount of potential with this game I can't recommend it now. Maybe sometime in the future.

The good:
The 3d models of weapons and other pre-made things are quite good. And the building tools are obviously very powerful and flexible.

The bad:
The optimization is horrible. Even with the graphics minimized and stuff like ocean simulation and other performance hogs turned off I would be lucky to get 15 frames. This game runs far worse than From The Depths, which is a infinitely more complex game.

The build tools, while powerful are super fiddly and generally not user friendly. You can't snap fit parts, or use your mouse to resize blocks. Compared to something like simple planes or even Avorion it is a slow and annoying process.

The UI isn't awesome, which isn't a big deal, but it is kinda annoying.

Additionally the English localization is not great. Doesn't really cause problems for me, but the descriptions of stuff is pretty wonky.

Arma 3 vanilla is a fine game, with an okay campaign and decent multiplayer.
That isn't the reason to get it though. The real reason is to find a group of people to play with, download at least 40 gigs of mods, then act surprised when it runs weird and glitches out constantly.

In the end though, there really isn't anything like it, and the many issues of the game do not outweigh the fun that can be had with a good group.

I have probably put at least 50 hours, probably a lot more, into this game on the 360.

A simple, but extremely enjoyable RTS. With a foundation built on "rock paper scissors" combat, with additional complexity added with infantry, combat engineers, and artillery, and later, their special abilities.
Additionally, there is destructible buildings, and destroyed vehicles don't despawn, and can be used as cover, allowing for pretty dynamic infantry usage.
It is an older game, that was made for the Xbox 360 / PS3. so the graphics aren't great, but good art direction keeps them from being ugly. Additionally, due to what I assume were engine constraints, you can't get the fully fidelity "god's eye view" that most RTS games use, but you can get a reduced polygon, monochrome god's eye view if you bring in a command tank.
The single player campaign is pretty solid, the AI isn't great, but not horrifically bad. And, for extra points, its dynamic, which aids in replayability. As far as I can tell the online is dead, which shouldn't be a surprise, this is a 13 year old Upisoft game. No Uplay though, which is nice.

Probably one of the most approachable RTS games out there, but pretty enjoyable for a genre veteran as well.

This is by no means a bad game.

The music is great.
The graphics are pretty good.
The effects are great.
The art direction is gritty and lived in, which in my opinion is great.
There is a good level of polish.

Game play wasn't for me though.

The combat is shallow, you, and any major threat to you, operate in two dimensions and try and broadside each other to death. It feels like age of sail combat, but without the wind and the movement restrictions that the wind provides.
The fights aren't the least bit tense, the main challenge comes from trying to figure out how much you need to lead your target.

Maybe the combat become more interesting later on in the game, but I don't really feel like continuing.

However, the sequel looks good, and I will probably pick it up at some point.

Here is a short, only slightly dramatized, story of how the game played out. An over all breakdown of the game will follow.

My work as a Bounty Hunter had let me scrape enough money together to buy a cargo ship and a few fighter escorts to make sure it got from point A to point B. The money I made from that ship running cargo, and more challenging jobs for the bounty hunters let me buy another, bigger cargo ship. Now, everything was going great until the defense of New Troy.
I made a mistake, got sloppy, and was too distracted avoiding attacks from the pirates to make sure I had picked the right target.

You ever see what happens to a fighter when it ends up on the wrong end of the 16 auto cannons on a Ultra class gunship? Well it doesn't last long, only thing that friendly fighter outlasted was my good name and the lack of a bounty on my head.

Can't really blame the other hunters for coming for me. I would have done the same. I hope they didn't hold it against me when I turned them into just another wrecked vessel floating in the void. They did destroy my transports as well, which put me in a rather dire financial situation.

Despite hunting them down, the pirates welcomed me with open docking bays and open arms.

End
===========================================

All the major events occured essentially how I described, and i went from a law abiding citizen who only attacked pirates, to a vicious marauder hunting down the weak in about two hours. Sure, I could have just reverted to an earlier save, but what's the fun in that?

This is the only game I have where something this major happened completely unscripted. The game world responds to your failures and successes. Fail a platform defense mission? That pack of pirates is not just going to vanish, they'll occupy an asteroid field, or just rampage through convoys unprepared to deal with threats of that magnitude.

Combat is very well done, dog fights are tight and intense, and different types require different approaches. And by different types, I am refering to individual types of fighters. The way you fight a Cobra class heavy fighter and the way you fight a Pug class heavy fighter are both different. As you go to bigger ships combat remains very intense, not only do you have to manage your own ship, but also order your fleet.

There are some bugs and unfinished content, but this is an early access game, so that comes with the territory. How ever the developer (singular, as in one person) is very active in the community, responding to questions, suggestions, and bug reports. Updates come out frequently, and patches are also quickly forthcoming.

One last note, the first time I played this game, I got the same feeling I did when I first played Mount and Blade Warband, which I have put around 400 hours in.

No movement or communication from the Dev in about 2 years, maybe buy if it is on sale and you are really interested in it, but beyond that, stay away.
