Where to start with this game.

I've just 100%'d this game and I wanted to share some of my thoughts on my experience. I'll try to stay away from spoilers as much as possible. I'm blown away by the quality, the art direction, the soundtrack, everything this game had to offer was a surprise.

Soundtrack:
For starters when you launch this game you are introduced to such an emotionally charged soundtrack that foreshadows the despair and sadness our characters face. This quality, this theme, this sad elegance is carried throughout the game. Sandfall Interactive did an excellent job composing these soundtracks each one grabbing my attention. My personal favourite Track, "Alicia"

Art:
I love the art Direction of this game. Expedition 33 features giant beautiful environments and small intimate spaces that had my jaw dropped every time. I was taking screenshots at almost every opportunity. They managed to combine this Painterly Artistry with French elements so well. Their attires, the architecture, the weapons our characters uses and even the enemies we face. It feels as if we were dropped into a 19th Century French Oil Painting and we're literally exploring between the artists paint strokes. There are hints of French Pride and Heritage everywhere and then complimented by the soundtrack? Perfect.

Combat:
I love turn based games and have played many of them in the past, so going into this I had reasonably high expectations. This game In my opinion had a great mix of difficulty and ease. Difficult enough for the player to feel like they have a challenge and aren't helpless but easy enough to not be completely frustrated on a boss for hours on end. A game where no fight is impossible if you are "good" enough meaning you can walk into an area that's vastly higher than you and you could still technically kill everything there. Each enemy in this game has their own unique move set that can be learned overtime and some have their own "way" of fighting sometimes making you adapt to situations whereby the abilities you may have picked up are ineffective. And Worst comes to Worst? you can always just leave to go level up exploring a different area. I'd like to go more into depth on combat but that'd be spoilers. But know you will not be disappointed.

Story:
I'll keep this short but whoever wrote this story? Wow, just wow. Beautifully written. I was attached to all the characters all having their own ups and downs that made me love them more and more. In a way we spend so much time with each character, you could say all the characters are main characters. Without one, the game would simply not be the same. This game was pulling on my heart strings literally the whole time.

Performance:
Shockingly this game ran so smoothly with such expansive environments and such detail. Even more shocking it ran so smoothly knowing it was built in UE5. I Had no performance issues other than the occasional crash. For context I have a 2070 Super.

Small Nitpick:
I do have one nitpick however. I played this game on mouse & keyboard and I understand this game was intended for controller, but man sometimes this game can be completely unresponsive when I use WASD. For example when I want to change target during combat using A&D, it would sometimes just do nothing and I'd either just have to back out of the ability to try again or i'd just be spamming the A&D keys to try move it. There's also a very specific moment in this game that involves climbing avoiding obstacles and using WASD for that section was actually painful. Thankfully that moment is optional so I can let it slide.

Its games like these that truly inspire others to create and innovate. I hope you all have the chance to play this game and thanks to Sandfall Interactive for such a pleasurable experience.

This is a serious GOTY contender and I'd shocked if this game doesn't atleast get nominated. 10/10 From me.

I am completely SOFTLOCKED.

For context, this is the first monster hunter game I've played so I'm unfamiliar with this franchise's core mechanics. I am hunter level 8 I believe.

Currently I am soft locked in a part of the main story that requires you to capture a monster. I've never been told how to capture one at this point or what you need to capture one (shock traps etc.) so I started this mission and failed after 50 mins not knowing what to do. I had some of these traps in my tent so on my next attempt I went to try to do it and failed capturing twice. NOW HERES THE PROBLEM, the issue isn't that I'm stuck because I suck, the issue is that even if I wanted to have another go capturing the monster I literally can't. The material required to craft the shock trap (thunderbug) don't spawn in the region I'm in. I am stuck in this region and cannot leave possibly maybe because the main story quest has been started. Therefore I am completely SOFTLOCKED. Now I either ask someone to help me or I just abandon this game and move on.

Onto another topic, this game runs so poorly especially in the forest part of the game on pc. Imagine coming to realisation that you're softlocked and you can't do anything, and the game runs at 20fps looking like blurry mess. How can a game on medium settings look like a game that came out in 2005 and run worse than it. These two things made me question is this even worth it? And now that the develolpers have come out and only said "update your graphic drivers and adjust your in-game settings" on the topic of performance, its given no hope on optimisation.

I was going to give this game a positive score. There are so many good aspects about this game its just such a shame.

110% percent worth the money you pay for. The new added Civs + Campaigns are welcomed and very entertaining. The dedicated servers for online play was needed and works very well. And obviously the graphics are a MASSIVE improvement. This game truly looks fantastic. Combine that with the unique units, buildings, Historical Scenarios,Combat and Online play. It truly is a masterpiece.

I don't understand when people are saying they struggling to run the game resulting in stuttering. I've been running at Ultra with ease. zero lag.

I know there are some people do not like RTS games and find it boring or stale but I'd recommend trying this game out.
