Owlcat Games with another amazing RPG. Tbh I don't care what setting it was on, I knew from my previous experience from playing Pathfinder games, this is gonna be a great RPG to play.

For those who are familiar with WH40K lore, this is a MUST PLAY for you. Before this, I've only played RTS WH40K games, this is the first time I tried a RPG set in this setting. I'm pretty casual when it comes to the lore, but this game really made me care and feel more invested in the story.

For the new players, I still think this is a great RPG to try as well, especially if you wanna get introduced to WH40K lore. This setting is a bit different than your typical fantasy games, a bit more bleak and extreme I guess. Still, I would recommend this to any RPG enjoyers.

For me, the only cons in this game is the bugs. I recommend to anyone who wanna try it, maybe wait until it's bit more balanced and optimized. Maybe wait until all the expansions was released? then you can enjoy everything.

A bit of my nitpick, I wish all the dialogues was voiced. This game have everything in terms of its contents to challenge RPGs like BG3, but I guess it just lack that "cinematic flair". Still very enjoyable

I'm writing this review from a POV of a "mainstream" VN reader. I played a few VNs with the map movement feature. But I guess this is my first introduction to the proper "classic Japanese dating sim".

And I gotta say, this one didn't hit the spot for me. Really disappointing.

My main issue is probably how detached it feels. I don't feel invested in any of the stories at all. The game has many interesting heroines, but they barely have any development at all (or the stories just move too fast). And don't get me started on how the MC behaves. It's seriously a turn off to have a hyper perverted/creep MC.

I guess the crux of the problem stems from the gameplay. Aside from the comedic moments, the game does want to have those serious romance stories. But due to the gameplay, it just didn't feel as natural as the typical VNs. Even playing with guides on, the freeroam feels boring as heck and a chore to play. I guess if you're a fan of this "dating sim map movement" gameplay, you'll love this VN. I know many people in the community love this title, but this isn't for me.

I'm actually planning to jump into YUNO next. but because of the similar gameplay(not really that similar, but yeah), I'm holding off on that.

A brief review for episode 1-3

An excellent lawyer/detective-focused visual novel full of drama and interesting plot that will get you hooked into the story. This is probably one of the most well written “western” adult visual novel out there with serious plot and interactions. One thing that I like about this VN that is different from most “western” AVNs out there is that it didn’t shy away to include slice of life moments. This includes normal people interactions and adequate character’s exposition that it really adds up to the world building of this game. The court/office scenes and character's conversation are really great. Even I got invested in the courtroom scene lol.

This VN has great renders and the animations for the lewd scenes are well done. The characters also looked very detailed, even other minor characters have unique different features. The love interests in this game are all unique and interesting. It has only 4 main LIs (which isn’t that many in “western AVN” standards), but the LIs are diverse enough that I’m sure each one of you will find your type. All of them are also well written with interesting backgrounds. Even I who's mostly bias and into mature/older looking LI got interested in the tomboy LI in the game.

Overall, I’m really happy with what I see so far, great VN. There’re still 5 episodes left out of 8, based on the dev’s projection. Here’s hoping each episode will be a great one.

There are several positive things I can highlight from this game, and there's also several negative things too.

One of the few negative things that really stand out for me is:

-The inconsistency of the Protagonist's(MC) personality. How the MC react in the game is all over the place. He just switches his personality depending on the situation. One time, he's a cringy loser guy with a "I am the main character" complex, another time, he feels emotionally competent, then he switches to being a wise "cool" dude. It's just felt weird to me. I find it really hard to take his character seriously. At least in other visual novels where we have a pragmatic and ruthless MC for example, his personality is consistent throughout the game with a chance to develop. In this game, MC just acted depending on what suit the situation best. Not like a real person react.

-No real direction to the main plot, aside from just "going to college and date girls". I wouldn't say this trope is bad tho. There're other visual novels with this setting, but this one only focuses on dating the girl aspect. I just think they went to far into that, you're literally being bombarded with love interest(LI)'s interaction every second. Like 1 second after you're done with one LI, you move on to another one straight after. At some point that can be tiring. If we're comparing games with similar setting like Being a ♥♥♥, they have tons of that too, but there're still many moments on expanding other characters and MC's. I think even BaD also have a somewhat direction with the fraternities events and the college drama.

Moving on to the positives:

I wouldn't say these a strong positives tho. just small compliments really.

- Just in overall quality/aesthetic, it looks good. The models look fine and I like how each LIs look. the UI and the feature is decent to. I can see the dev put some work in it.

- I wouldn't say I'm much of a soundtrack guy. But the music choice in this is good

- The LIs are kinda interesting, I would enjoy the romance more if the game not slap every ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ LIs every seconds. Imo, they need to spread out the content and put other core stories aside from just dating girls.

I think the best comparison I can give to this game is that it's like playing University of Problems(UoP), which is not a strong compliment lol. I can see why some people would love it, but yeah I wouldn't consider it to be that great overall. There are a few small glimpses of intrigue that caught my attention in the plot, but nothing major.

I gave it like a 6.5/10 overall. With these 6-7/10 games, I can't tell which I like more. But they can't be an 8/10 game for me, that's for sure. If we're comparing college setting AVNs, it's slightly better/worse than UoP but definitely worse than Westview academy.

I guess if you enjoy games like UoP or Lust Academy or other ♥♥♥♥♥ like that, you'll like this.

Pros:

-Amazing deep stories/lore but also simple enough that new players to the genre can adapt if they want.
-Tons of decision making and different ways to resolve the quests
-Interesting companions and characters. Plus, I'm a sucker for redemption stories they have in this.
-Cutscenes and full voiced in CRPG. Definitely should be the norm, increase the immersion. More development, but yeah, I'd love to see dev like Owlcat improve their games in that matter.
-The game can run decently well in my low-mid spec PC, albeit with glitches here and there

Cons:

-BUGS, the game still swarming with bugs. No game breaking bugs fortunately(quicksave often since I've encounter several crashes in my first playthrough)

Great game for newcomers to CRPG and also the veterans. Mainstream RPG players(Dragon Age, Skyrim, etc) will definitely need time to adapt and absorb all the information tho. The gameplay is a bit similar to DOS2 but with DnD lore. In terms of complexity, I'd say it stays in the middle. I personally still prefer the difficulty in games like Pathfinder because it can feel satisfying when you go all in in the builds.

One thing that just doesn't sit right to me is the protagonist in this (if you're playing a custom character). I just didn't feel that invested in them. Similar to what I feel about previous Larian game I've played (DOS2). Definitely need more backstory than just being a blank slate. Not that a blank slate protagonist is a bad thing, I enjoy my blind run, but yeah. f.e the custom character in WoTR or Dragon Age for example is still a blank slate, but they still feel like the main center point to the story. I'll never play the companion origin because I want them as companions. I recommend new players who wants more "spices" in their protagonist to try the Dark Urge origin (one thing that I wished I've done when I started BG3). Although, The Dark Urge can still be too much to some people. so yeah, just play however you like, this is just my nitpick.

Great farming sim overall. I'd say this is one of the prettiest 3D farming sims I've played.

I've been holding on from buying the game since I wanna experience the"full version" of the game. Bought 1.0, haven't finished my first year but I invested a decent chunk of my time in the game, then I've noticed it's never the "full version" there's more content according to the future roadmap.

Decided to stopped playing and save myself for the "full" full version. I did the same thing with Sun Haven. I'd say, if you want to experience the "full" game, skip this one and put it on your wishlist for now. But if you don't mind with the missed contents, get it now.
