Why is it not called Maize Maze?

While a mechanically simple game, it has a strong atmosphere, especially on the audio front. It creates a great sense of unease while exploring the maze for evidence and makes you urgently feel the need to leave, something which can be made more difficult by random nature of the mazes and the space warping mechanic found when traversing the corn. The game also features a co-op, which my or may not ease some of the tension.

Visually some elements are lacking, the night time skybox and the lighting of the maze maps is great, though some of the assets look a bit rough and the lighting feels a bit off inside of the lobby house. I was able to escape the bounds of some of the maps but this required effort on my part. I have no comment to make on the VR as I do not own a VR headset, though I can only imagine it enhances the already strong atmosphere.

Fun game, very engrossing, nice music too, it helps me focus on many tasks.

A game that I adore but feel pain for every time I play it when I think about what could have been with a time and monetary budget similar to Bethesda's Fallout entries.

Pretty decent touhou game. It's not my favourite by any stretch but I don't think it's a major decline in quality as some people in the community have said about the newer entries in the series, the high point of this game has been it's soundtrack so far and the music room allows you to easily listen to it from within the game.

If you don't know what Touhou or a bullet hell game is, they are type of Shmup that bombards the player with high densities of bullets, Touhou tends to focus on a fancy patterns which can look quite impressive though you going to have to watch your own replay or someone else's videos to fully appricate that as you will be too busy focused on not dying to take it in during your own gamplay. If you don't play these kinds of games don't expect it to be easy even on the lowest difficulty and this is by no means the hardest bullet hell game out there.

There is much more offical Touhou work including Manga, fighting games, various spin off gimmick shooters, stand alone music, and source books. Pretty much all of it has been translated into english and great place to find it all is https://moriyashrine.org of course you can jump through some hoops to get your hands on physical copies of all this stuff too. The Touhou wiki is also a great resource to help you get into the series.

Outside of the offical stuff lies a dedicated community with talented artists, muscians and writers who have really made Touhou come alive and kept it going for so long, I personally have made many great friends thanks to this series and my experience with the fans has been mostly good, of course you still have to look in the right places to find the good as with everything.

All in all I am happy to see any Touhou on steam as I want a way to repay ZUN for all the great experiences his creations have given me for nothing even if this game isn't my favourite. I hope to see more of his work come to steam and I look forward to seeing how this entry does on steam.
