Early Access Review

One word: Revamp.

Mostly everything still stands. The biggest, and probably the best thing, is that there is a massive increase in loot. There's also more zombies so now it feels like a zombie survivor game versus a big pvp map. In less than 15 minutes I was able to find 2 shirts, a helmet (protects you from being head shots, i.e. so win), a sniper rifle, and a bunch of sheet metal. I spawned in different parts of the map for about 30 minutes or so just checking things and everywhere I checked -trucks, cabinets, etc- all had loot. Maybe only a water bottle but it's definitely an improvement. Not having an in game map is still really annoying so that is still points taken off. However, with this new update I can say I'm actually having fun.

*Changed recommendation*

As of now, for someone who wants to kill time, I'd say it's worth it. I'll keep updating this as the updates come out.

Warning: Fairly long story, skip to TL;DR for short version.

Generally, I never write reviews about any game I play. Ps3, PC, whatever. This game, however, is a little different. I bought it with the intention of playing with some friends and after watching some videos I figured "Oh this is going to be fun! I'm going to uppercut someone!". Well, you can. However, the fist combat system is wonky as all hell. Yes, I'm aware that this is an alpha preview and they can change it so I won't knock it... much. I understand they wanted to make this game realistic so you don't get a map. You have to use a website to an h1z1 map (there are a few of them online) just to find out where you are, where your friends are, or where your friends need to go to meet you. This isn't a "huge" deal for me as I have dual monitors, but for people with single monitors, be aware that if you tab out, you might come back dead. After running around for almost 2 hours I could count on one hand how many zombies I killed. Again, it's alpha. I know. The thing about this game is that anyone you meet has the ability to kill you and most of them do.

Good luck sneaking up on deers because they run faster than you, naturally. If you don't 1 shot them then you better have a friend to help, otherwise there's a chance a wolf is going to take your kill. Or you'll.. you know.. just get killed by another play. That's cool too. Which brings me to my next point. Berries. You consistently have to eat berries to replenish your hydration and food levels. At 2% per berry, that could take a while. If you happen to kill a deer to get its meat, then you can cook it. Beware though, once you start a fire, it can be seen from a mile away. Who's attracted to fires? Zombies. No, just kidding. Players. They see a fire and you're around, if you're lucky they'll just want to share the fire to cook their meet. If you're not so lucky, they'll kill you, take your gear, and send you on a one way trip back to who-the-hell-knows-where-you'll-spawn land. Remember that map I told you about? Better have that handy.

I won't go into drop ships or any of the sort because there is a chance you might not get your own drop. If you think zombies are bad, you should see players when they hear a drop ship. Woo!

Outside of glitches (which are to be expected) the loot system needs a huge overhaul. Well, huge may be a bit drastic. I'd say a nice update. You might spend 2 hours and find no loot on a zombie. You might kill a zombie and get ammo, or a gun, or if you're lucky, both. Look at you! With a gun. All boss like! Ready to kill anything that walks....

.... but don't get killed. Because you'll lose everything.

TL;DR
-No in game map
-Need to use a website for a map
-VERY low loot system (alpha)
-Not nearly enough zombies (alpha)
-Far too many players that have nothing better to do than kill others for... cloth, if you're a fresh spawn.
-Blackberries are life. No, really. Blackberries are the only thing you can count on to stay alive.
-But you'll get killed by another player anyway.
-Takes FAR too long to find a gun. (alpha)
-But... you'll DEFINITELY be killed for that.
-If you aren't playing with friends, good luck trusting a random person.

I'm already tired of this game and I have right around 7 hours or so. I can't recommend this game. I just can't. At least not right now. Once a better update comes out, if I like the changes, I'll update my review. Until then... No. Just no. Don't pay $20 for this.
