This is a review based off of the current state and previous states of smite, this review may or may not apply to future patch notes and builds of the game, based on if Hi-Rez fixed their ♥♥♥♥ or not. Follow-up reviews will follow if the game changes drastically in anyway.

This review will be split up into several parts focusing on specific aspects of the game, a follow-up verdict will also appear for each section ranking from Atrocious, Really Bad, Bad, Good, Very Good, Excellent


This game of smite has had alot of up and downs in it's long career, however after playing it for so long and seeing what the game is and how it has transformed it's really hard for me to truly recommend it to anyone. First off we have to start off with the ♥♥♥♥-head of a company hi-rez is. This company does not care about their game or their players at all. All they want is the easy cash-money that they can get from this game. Now is it wrong of them to want to make a profit, not at all, however when the only way to do so is by locking nice skins behind chests which offer prepostrous chances from 0/14 in the summer chest to 0/56 in most other chests it honestly hurts. Not only that but Hi-Rez's other way of keeping your wallets empty is by constantly offering "limited/exclusive skins" skins that you must BUY-NOW or never see them again except for upcoming chests in the future. Other then that, the balancing in smite is absolutely atrocious, and the gameplay is sometimes absolutely riddled with broken patches and bugs, however we'll expand on that later.


The sound and music in smite is fine, the music is nice to listen to at times and several varieties are offered which once again hi-rez smacks you with a bundle having you to most likely buy a season ticket or exclusive bundle for several music themes. Other then that the music is pretty forgetful however it doesn't need to be. The sound in smite however is very important, and is a very useful thing to have maxed out to be able to hear incoming enemy attacks from the jungle. Moves sound nice, and the sound when the gold fury, pyromancer and fire giant die are nice and loud.

Verdict: Very Good


Smite's graphics similar to the sound is nice. It's not your witcher 3 or Arma 3, but it doesn't have to be. The graphics work well enough to incorporate nice looking gods, that don't look to out of place or too weird. The graphics aren't that intensive either where it drastically decreases fps at max graphics (However I am running an i5 6600k & GTX 1070). Smites maps also, have looked fairly nice especially the newest conquest map, taking a more cartoonish look in contrast with the previous one. And the art-design in smite for items look excellent.

Verdict: Very Good


Smite offers 8 different gamemodes from Arena, (Ranked/Normal) Joust, (Ranked/Normal) Conquest, Seige, Clash, Assault, Motd and (Ranked) Duel

The gamemodes in smite are pretty fun, however can grow to be very stale. Arena is your average deathmatch, Conquest is your average Moba gamemode, Joust is a 1 lane only 3v3, Clash is a 5v5 with only 2 lanes and an open middle, Seige is the same however with a more enclosed center and Assault is a 1 lane 5v5 with no recalls. I'm going to be primarily be focusing however on conquest being the main gamemode of smite

Conquest

Ranked Conquest in it's current state is absolutely broken and unplayable. Starting off with bans, you will most likely get the same 8 gods banned in your typical smite game, however 4 bans from each side doesn't even cover the number of op gods that there are in the game. Smite has also extended the average time of Ranked conquest/normal conquest in general where it takes you 40 minutes of your life to go through one game atleast. In comparison your average League game lasts around 20 - 25 minutes on average. Also the fact that you're going to most likely going through the same rotation of gods through each game makes it even more boring.

Balancing

Smites balancing is absolutely atrocious and the worst of any game. Hi-Rez's definition of balancing a god is either nerfing it, to absolutely ♥♥♥♥-level or a 2/10 chance of it being picked, or absolutely god/op tier. One example is guan yu, this god was rarely if even played throughout the beginning of season 5, however with the swift swing of Hi-Rez's broken wand, you will most likely see guan yu banned, and if he is let through he absolutely destroys in lane. Other similar examples range from Achilles to He Bo to Nemesis (At an earlier point) and Ullr. Not to mention that it takes Hi-Rez ages to actually ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ fix these issues. Achilles was released in February and he still broken 4 months later. This company has absolutely no idea how to balance gods at all. And usually the gods that are buffed, are the ones getting an upcoming skin. Such as Thoth, ullr and nemesis, who all had exclusive skins attached to their buff.

Gods

Gods in smite used to be unique and fun to play with, now the most recent gods have been boring pieces of ♥♥♥♥ with little to no variety in comparison to previous gods. For example the most recent god Chernobog is an exact Ah Muzen Cab and Neith copy cat, taking the models from AMC, and Neiths 1 and 2 however in reverse. This god is absolutely ♥♥♥♥, and boring in contrast to a god such as hun batz or tyr who have such good and unique kits.

Matchmaking

The Matchmaking in this game is absolute garbage aswell, in what game does a platinum player get 6 silver teammates. It doesn't even make ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sense, different divisions are made for a reason, if you want to see if a player is improving then pair them up with a division at most 2 above their own not ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ 4 - 6..

Verdict: Very Bad

Overall smite in it's current state has gone to complete ♥♥♥♥ and it completely shows with the decreasing number of players returning to play the game, the game and the passion found in it has been completely lost, and Hi-Rez shows little to no respect to either the game or the players. I do not recommend this game and if you're new to the game I would suggest not putting as much time at this moment into it, and rather find a different and better game. If the game pleases you enough where you think you want to play it go ahead but currently the game is running itself to death
