Fun game, not really a dungeon crawl as it's heavily linear but enjoyable. Makes fun of the whole fantasy RPG genre and takes pokes at everything from Lord of the Rings to Judy Judy.

While listed as a tactical RPG, it's much lighter in that respect than Blackguards is and both games share enough of the same mechanics that learning one after the other is easy.

Having played 2 different types of hero characters so far I understand all the negative comments concerning out-numbered battles, too many foes etc...... If you go into this game with a typical gaming mindset than yes the battles are going to drive you up a wall. On the other hand, if you've wargamed in the past the battles (or tactical puzzles as they call them) aren't that bad.

Equip your party right, know how to read a battlefield, position your troops and you'll find winning isn't that hard.

While the story is only so-so and not worth buying the game for, the series of tactical battles more than makes up for that.

The character voices are engaging, a nice mix of dry humor keeps it interesting. I'm not usually big on games that use voice overs, but I didn't mind this one.

Starting off in the expert mode helps you get off on the right foot as it allows you to craft your hero character the way you want them to be.

All games have bad parts and this one does too. I disliked how on some maps you need to open chests or break things in order to increase your loot. In most games you'd clear the map and then loot. BG's on the other hand requires you to take care of those things while you fight. Once the last foe goes down, the map closes out, zippo, period, you're done. No more looting.

The other thing is I found the percentage to hit is sometimes baffling. Hit chances would go from 85% / 95% to hit down to 65% for my melee character; same type of target, positioning, nothing I could see was different, but the game thought so. Minor, but like I said baffling.

A good game, fun to play and seems to go on sale alot. Very recommended.

I bought STO on disk back when it came out. Besides some of it's faults it was a fun game to play. Then sometime between the sub's ending and my coming back to it, it changed. Space NPC's got a lot harder, missions I could do then, I couldn't anymore.

The 23c Temporal mission's they put it brought some of the fun back, but there's only like 6 of those and then it's back to the normal stuff.

They've tried to set up the different quests like TV episodes, too bad they didn't set the game in any of the show's time periods, but set it after all of them so they wouldn't be hampered by restraints. When you look at how they keep coming up with new ships to sell it makes sense, but from playing in a familiar area, not so much.

It's F2p and there's really no reason ever to put money into it. It should have been a better game and even now it seems has it's charms.

-------------------
Well here it is 3 years later and I started playing again. Not sure if they ramped the missions back down or what happened, but I got back on the episode track and wasn't having any problems this time around. I did hit one quest I couldn't get past, but I went back and replayed the last 3 quests which was enough to level up to a new ship and was able to get past it.

A lot's changed since I last left the game and on the whole I like what they've done. The stories are interesting and the different factions are nice.

All in all a fun casual game and worth it if you enjoy Star Trek.

If you like the D&D vibe you'll get it. The places, the races all say D&D, too bad the game play & story really don't.

It's more of a heavy hand holding 'wack a mole' game. You get some pretty simple reasons for the quest and then it's follow the sparkle path to your goal. I can see where people say it's P2P, you get numerous 'unidentlfied' items and have to use scrolls to ID them. Too bad the scrolls that drop in game only handle low level stuff so they're pretty much worthless after level 5. But you guess it, you can buy better scrolls in the store.

I will say you get a lot of free stuff as you play and I got 2500 zen for store purchases that seem to have come free with my new account.

In all the games I've played I've never really had a problem with the stock UI. Neverwinters on the other hand is fairly confusing. Not only is the lay out bad so you end up starting out re-binding keys so it flows, but you get many more abilities etc.... than you have slots for.

Interesting for an older game it seems to require a fairly good computer. I can handle LotRO & DDO on high, but can only play on low here so I know I'm missing out on a lot of pretty views.

This is one of those Yes & No games. It's fun and simple and the closest game I can really compare it to would be Drakensang Online, a browser game. It plays the same and I can run it at a higher graphic's level. Too bad it's not D&D.

Some Pro's:
- You get a good number of inventory slots right off the bat and then get a free bag to expand it
- If you don't like your character after playing abit you can buy a total change token from the store (remember those free zen?). Lets you change the race, gender and looks without losing your levels.
