I personally enjoyed the story, notably the first half but I get its not for everyone.
However where Dawntrail shines is gameplay content, boasting some of the best normal dungeons and trials since release.
New class design is at its peak too, viper is essentially perfect for my preferred melee playstyle and pictomancer is overall a worthwhile side grade to BLM.
I hope SE continues with this level of design in the future especially when it comes to the savage/ult raids as this expansion has potential to be the best by far.
