It's literally just the first one but it supports multi-threading (it runs better on modern computers), introduces new mechanics that compliment the existing game play, and has way better graphics.

And yes, it supports mods. It's even got an in-game mod page through mod.io.

The only issue with the game atm is that Stardock decided to use AI to generate UI elements. This has resulted in a very poorly made interface where imagery used to represent things like research options or ship types is so generic you really can't tell what's what.

Needs lots of time and love to be a properly fleshed out game, but the foundation is there.

It runs amazingly, you can tell the dev put his heart and soul into optimization

The building aspect are fun if you like colony sims or city builders. Logistics come into play a lot and each new playthrough you'll learn a little bit more about how to build.

The combat is pretty fun. Positioning matters. Terrain matters. Equipment matters. Every reasonable factor is there.

That all said, there's not a TON of late-game content. The current big bad is off-map and for the most part you're dealing with raiders and occasional mercenary hosts that the evil duke guy sends to take your land. Don't let that stop you, however, as there's a lot more coming in the near-future.

This game definitely has potential, but it's a bit shallow. There's a ton to do but not much point in doing it. Combat isn't particularly engaging. Ambient enemies can't damage your base or wander from their spawns unless aggro'd. You can run past 90% of mobs without any sort of downside. The Shroud is a neat idea but it doesn't move or present a threat beyond a pretty generous timer that kills you when it hits zero. The NPCs you can save are literally just crafting stations.

The question is, if you can just sit there and exist without anything actually coming after you, is it really a survival game?

I bought this game when 1.0 was out and watched as Funcom continued to innovate and establish new, exciting mechanics all the way through Age of Sorcery. The game was never perfect but it was a reasonably stable, fun experience.

Age of War changed that dynamic. Combat mechanics have been gutted under the guise of a rework and the previous avenues of skill expression that existed in PvP just aren't there anymore. Moreover, the game gets less stable with every new update and Funcom shows no sign of reconsidering their current approach of shotgunning updates and fixing issues after months of complaints from players.

To illustrate how bad things are, the DLC 'Isle of Siptah' was rendered unplayable due to fatal crashes while on the map. The issue persisted for 6 months before it was addressed. That is just one example out of dozens.

I cannot in good faith recommend this game in it's current state. Both the quality of updates and the direct of 'reworks' introduced by the present Funcom team have led to a less exciting, less stable Conan experience. Take it from someone who played for over 4000 hours, it's no longer worth buying Conan Exiles.

Got off a 25 day streak with the boys, we were feeling pretty good. Rainy planet? No problem, we're pros now. I jump off the ship. There's a circuit bee hive inside of a mud pit, I land on both. I sink, screaming in terror as I'm electrocuted to death. Still made quota.

Gold standard of what a game should be. It's a full game with zero micro-transactions, well thought-out mechanics, and a leaning towards freedom of action over some on-rails "cinematic" experience. This is what happens when you push shareholders out of game design.

There's a situation where several planets will be allowed to secede from your empire with like zero consequences (they get a 10 year truce). You can prevent it by landing troops and building forts but if you don't then you lose like 6 systems without a fight.

So my fanatically loyal troops just decided to lay down their weapons and surrender instantly? Then my emperor just went "oh well, it's not like we have a fleet and an army" and signed the 'recognize these random ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥' accord? What?

This was absolutely terrible game design.

Finally, the MAIN mechanic of the DLC is bad. Vassals get to basically decide 100% of the terms as befits them. Even when you forcibly vassalize someone, the default agreement doesn't include anything but a war agreement and the ability to annex them.

Again, did my militarist empire just go "Well attacking you was super mean so I guess you get to dictate the terms of your subjugation"?

Please fix this. This is genuinely the first DLC I've ever disliked on this game.
