This is my first map for A Hat in Time. it was mostly just messing around with the editor. There's a rift token to collect, gems and of course, a time piece to collect.

I must say, I wasn't expecting this much fun from Danganronpa 2. I'm happy to say that it surpassed my expectations is almost every single way.

If you've never played a Danganronpa game before then you have two options: either play Danganronpa 1 first to avoid the maximum ammount of spoilers and have the story make more impact, or just play it while not having played the previous game.
While playing the previous game is not required, there are some spoilers realted to the first game since it happens after the events of the first game.

If you have played Danganronpa before then it doesn't really matter what i'm saying since you probably bought it already anyways.

Now for the actual game itself, Danganronpa 2 goes with a theme about forging the future and reaching your goals. The story aproaches this theme in a very subtle way in the initial chapters and develops it more and more in the later game. While the primary focus of the story and the game is the killing game that the cast has to go trough, the way they explore the theme is done quite well.

Danganronpa 2 also has in my opinion the best set of characters in the series, all unique and likeable, making it more interesting when you see a character that you probably liked showing up death at some point. This game won't (probably) spare your favourite characters and that's part of it's charm, making you decide wether or not you should spend your Free Time with a certain character. It's always interesting in finding out more about whoever you spend your Free Time with and also their motives for the actions that they did.

The ambience in this game is fantastic, the only negative point that it has is the side scrolling exploration on the island roads. It's not terrible but it does remove the player a bit from the immersion.

This game is also separated in four phases of gameplay:
- The first one is the story stuff, it plays like a typical VN where you go trough a certain ammount of story and exposition before moving on to the next bit of the game.
- The second one is the free exploration or Free Time, in wich you're completly free to explore any part of the islands that you've unlocked so far or spend time with certain member of the cast in order to deepen your relationship. This gives you Hope Fragments wich can then be used to buy skills for use in class trials. Obtaining five Hope Fragments with a certain character gives you access to a special skill (a bit like Persona 3/4/5 where you get buffs by doing Social Links). However, keep in mind that certain characters will die at some point in the game, making this task a bit more hard. You can also take these chances to raise and take care of your virtual pet, wich is a bit enjoyable to do and gives you skills and monocoins (the game's currency).
- The third phase of the gameplay is the Investigation bit. It plays like the exploration / Free Time, only this time you're gathering clues about the murder to find out "whodunnit". It's very linear but it does a great job of adding to the atmosphere and story, plus it basically says who the culprit is you're really paying attention and not overlooking anything.
- The fourth phase is the Class Trial, this is the phase that Danganronpa is probably more known for. The game completly changes: you will be doing a variety of minigames and doing some checks on what you've learned so far. Not only that but everything is fully voice acted in this bit to add even more to the ambience. The minigames are all quite fun to do and the dialogue is usually enjoyable. The only problem about the Class Trials is that sometimes it can a while to reach to conclusions of some pretty basic questions with even more basic answers.

As for the music, Danganronpa 2 shares most of the soundtrack from the first game, however that's a very positive point since it's absolutely amazing. Every music track just drowns you in the immersion and the setting and theres some nice variety in it. Every musice that you hear fits the situation that you're in.

Outside of the main game, there's two more gameplay modes in Danganronpa 2, the Monomi mode and the Island Mode.

- The Monomi mode is basically a top down minigame where you control Monomi and defeat enemies in waves by creating circles around them. After a certain ammount of waves, a boss will appear and you'll unlock the next stage (you also need to unlock the required chapter for that stage awell in the main story mode).

- Island mode is only available after you've beaten the game and its basically a "what if" in wich the killing never happen and you need to live peacefully and gather all of the Hope Fragments from the cast. This is also where the "dating sim" comes in, allowing you to view special events that were not shown in the main story.

There's an extra mode after you've beaten the game where a "what if" scenario of the first game is explored.

The only departmente where the game lacks a bit is in the UI, in wich certain minigames suffer because you can't view all the clues and arguments that you can use easily.

Overall Danganronpa 2 is a very solid experience with an enjoyable story, characters and music. It's a nice game to introduce someone to this series and it's a very worthy sucessor of the first one. Danganronpa V3 does some stuff better and improves a lot off stuff, but this DR2 is a cheaper option that can very well be used as an introduction to Danganronpa or as a improvement of DR1.
