It's okay. I finished up my cabin then promptly realized there's nothing left to the game except for endlessly balancing resource meters. I really want there to be more for the game, like raising bees or even like a well so I have water near my cabin

What confuses me is why the project seems so abandoned. They have a pick, used for a single item, which is used to make glue. There's only one kind of resin, despite what the icon would lead you to believe. Also there's birds and rabbits, but no weapons, so you can neither protect yourself from bears nor get any meat beyond fish. The fishing system I actually kinda like, but tension breaks lines way too fast. There's no real reason to use campfires or tents because they take up an entire slot in your limited storage space to begin with and there's like 1 structure to explore. I want to like the game more than I do, but it just feels like quarter-baked. The fact that it's not Early Access is just appalling. There needs to be an end before you can just say its done.

TL;DR
Yeah, get it, it's free bruv. Though I would not reccomend it if you are really weak towards childhood trauma or alcohol.

The rest of the review

Overall, yeah, this game is pretty darn good. I sadly didn't go into blind but I wish I had.

You play as Chris Eriksen, a young boy with a vivid imagination, whose mother died and whose father copes with beer. The father, depending on your point of view, can either come of as a tragic man who can't cope with the loss of his wife, or a horrible father who doesn't want to help himself.

With that out of the way, let's talk about the story, without dealing too much about spoilers.

You play as Chris, a member of the Life is Strange universe, who uses his imagination to believe he is Captain Spirit, a superhero that can control all matter to his will while making astonishing sound effects with his mouth. You can design what Captain Spirit looks like to a degree, whether you have a helmet or mask, colorful or dark armor, etc. Then, you embark on a journey to defeat Mantroid, a combination of the streets that his mother was killed on., Captain Spirit's nemisis. Of course, this isn't really happening, it's all in the imagination of a child. Meanwhile, he's wait for his dad to finish his basketball game to pick out a christmas tree.

Now Chris's dad is quick to anger, almost too quick.

Sometimes his dad shifts too quickly between tones when talking to him, but that can be likely chalked up to his alcoholism for the most part. This leads into the fact that the game is cringy, but that's not a bad thing. The protagonist is a child afterall, and the things he does may be cringy, but they are also charming. It gives most players a sense of nostalgia
of simpler times playing with action figures or dolls while making the bizarre whooshing effects as best they can.

Basic Details

Game length: ~1.5-2.5 hours

Game content: Mostly talking and interacting with the world while learning about the current situation.

Controls: Pretty good, some things feel a bit strange (heh) but it's quick to get used to. If you can't interact with something, you might not be in the right position, like with his dad's whisky bottle.

Price: It's free bruv, though I would easily pay $2-5 for this.

Topics to be warned of: Alcoholism, intense swearing, light amount of offscreen abuse, intense FEELS, and loss. So this is likely not for young children ironically.

Also you can draw a shlong in the snow: 10/10

Okay, first and foremost: THIS IS NOT A POSITIVE REVIEW. With that said, you should still play it.

Okay, so I got this game for free, they were giving it away and I said "eh, screw it, I'll try it." I booted it up, slightly confused as to why the screen window was miniscule then watched the opening trailer/cutscene. The main menu came up and I selected the tutorial. Holy crap, these things control like an RC helicopter in cold molasses. Aiming was like trying to use a real gun with the only the ironsights while being blind in one eye.

Short and sweet: the controls are very floaty and it's obvious the game is physics-based (which isn't a bad thing)

However, the fact that the tutorial only covered combat and not any of the other parts of the game (like the buy menu, etc.) it was... an interesting experience.

Do note that I played this by myself, I could actually find myself having an extreme amount of fun playing this couch co-op, that is, if I had friends.

However, I find that the game DOES have some good qualities. The main idea behind the game is great and the idea of a sand-box-esqe RTS is a good idea. Not to mention the style, it's its own thing, not a clone of some other franchise.

tl;dr: the game controls poorly, the tutorial isn't great, but if a few things were changed, the game would be amazing.

Thank you Dungeon Defenders team for fixing your bugs. If you did not know, they had a bug where you would have ALL of your towers and abilities when you made a new character of which you had another high level variant of. They fixed it, so I can now reccomend this game! :D

Early Access Review
It's a zombie horror game, without the horror.
