Gorgeous graphics and soundtrack, fun gameplay that is quite distinctly different from the first. If you didn't like the auto attack system of the first Ni No Kuni, then this game will probably suit you better. The gameplay can occasionally still be a bit slow since there's still no run function, but the level progress is faster and it's not impossible to defeat someone a few levels higher than you anymore. Overall better balanced and less grindy than the first game, plus other quality of life changes that make it stand out a little more. Definitely took the bad parts of the first game and improved exponentially on them.

To start, this review is meant for casual people thinking of getting into fighting games. This is not for those who want to play Tekken, because if you are then wtf are you doing in the reviews section.

First on the technical side, pretty bad port tbh, lots of lag and stuttering when playing; cost me more than a few online matches. Currently facing a bug where the game freezes and inputs an up+back input and that always seems to happen online when I'm blocking a string so I'll promptly eat the entire thing once the game unfreezes itself. Not recommended for several reasons, but long story short not good for casual gamers and you'll just waste your money and have a bad time. If you're a competitive player or really want to get into this game there's no way you're here reading the reviews and not already labbing a character. If you are here, and you live in SEA, just know that I got matched with the same person 9 times in a row before, 3-4 times on average, so fk that ♥♥♥♥.

TO CLARIFY: I am not a pro player, I'm pretty average at the game despite spending a lot of time on execution and movement training. I hardly drop combos and can do all the advanced stuff, and that's why I can't honestly recommend this game to casual players.

I really like this game. Seriously I do. The story is meh but who plays tekken for the story. The gameplay is good, the characters are diverse in their movesets and there's quite a lot of allure to this game. HOWEVER, if you pick this game because you saw a character you liked and decided "I'm gonna go learn that character!" there's a 50-50 chance of you having a bad time.

Some people argue that there are no characters that are harder than others, and that's plain ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ when even pro players make tierlists and clearly pick specific characters for their perks. But for the rest of us that are around average, or would be average if they could get into the game, it can be very difficult to get into a game when the better players (those that have been playing for years) just sort of trash your ass with really long aerial combos and you feel like you're getting juggled for infinity. Then you finally land, wipe away your tears and get up (albeit after a few wallhits) and you find you have just a sliver of health left. A sliver that is promptly taken away by a random low kick and you lose, prompting your tears once more. Rinse and repeat three rounds and that's that, you have now achieved the longest crying session ever in an online match.

It doesn't really help either that most guides have very specific terminology for their combos and tips, and the only way to consistently get combos is to sit down and practice and grind them. This means that just getting to win online takes quite a substantial amount of dedication and practice, not something everyone has the time to spare for.

So I love this game. I played Tekkens 5 through 7 to death. But I'm average, and for the average consumer, especially those whose first Tekken is Tekken 7, the road to being average in this game is a hard one. Even the story mode bosses aren't exactly easy, so you're in for a bumpy ride. I DO NOT recommend this game for the casual player, as you will feel violated by the time you finish your first online match. For people who are willing to dedicate their time to playing this game and learning it, this is a great competitive game to play, great for having friends over, and great for wasting some time if you have time to waste. I, unfortunately, do not have the time to waste, and I'd rather sink the few hours that I have into more forgiving games liker uno (not really, I play MMOs), where there are no tears to cry and the only violation that happens is when I break the rules and steal my opponents' cards claiming "I AM THE RULES". So yes, this game is great, but the learning curve is a steep one. At this point I have dropped well over 700 hours into this game, so that should give you an idea.

This game is crap. Only because I'm invested in the franchise (I watched and read SAO since several years ago when it first came out) did I invest the time and effort to finish this game, and let me tell you what a ♥♥♥♥ show that was.

The AI are useless, the characters are annoying, and though the story is interesting good luck trying to properly enjoy it while dealing with nonsensical other quirks of this stupid game.

The game is horrendously broken. No matter how skilled you are at shooters (I'm a gold rank in overwatch and played fps games all my life) it matters nothing in here because the damned guns sway so hard you're wrestling with the pointer. Only the guns without scopes don't sway, but then your bullets get subjected to RNG hitboxes thanks to the stupid bullet circle mechanism. Your bullets will only hit SOMEWHERE in the circle, not where you're aiming at. Turn it off, and it's nearly impossible to properly fire at enemies that seem to run at the speed of light around you. In the meantime, your enemies are busy 360 noscope headshotting you from halfway across the map while jumping around like squirrels on crack. Regardless of what the people may say about scope sway and realism, if you plan on making a game "realistic" then your rules for shooting should apply to your enemies too. The moment you step out of cover you are instantly bomabarded with bullets from every direction, and every single one of it is unloaded into your head. There are two very distinct hit sounds for anywhere on the body, and for critical hits to the head. The fact that everytime I step out of cover the only thing I hear is an epileptical spasm of the critical hit sound before I die within about three seconds is heresy. It is impossible to fight more than one enemy at a time, and if that one enemy is focused on you then you are guaranteed to die becasue every single one of their bullets seems to be magically attracted to your head while yours is subject to ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ RNG IN A CIRCLE.

EDIT: Just recently after finishing a cutscene, I entered the game and promptly died before I even loaded into the screen. To anyone wondering exactly what it is I saw, basically before the image loaded up on my monitor (it's a 75hz refresh rate one with a gtx1080), I was already being shot by something. Therefore, by the time my image loaded up and I gained access to the controls (I am using a coolermaster masterkeys mechanical keyboard and a logitech g402 hyperion fury, so not a hardware issue) and could move freely I had been dropped to like 1 HP. I was only saved because there was a box in front of me that I managed to dive roll behind, then I died because a floating drone flanked me before I could heal. Seriously Bandai? Seriously?

If you're going to play this game, you might as well just get a damned rocket launcher, because no other weapon is of any use whatsoever. Your enemies will most definitely use that on you and hit you with complete one hundred percent accuracy, so you better over level yourself like a mofo and spam rockets in their direction or you're getting nowhere. If you plan on using anything other than a rocket launcher, heck even if you're using a rocket launcher, bind an easily reachable key to disabling the assist mode. Turn that damned thing off unless you're applying debuff shots or healing shots.

This is a prime example of false difficulty, where the enemies are not better than you, or particularly strong. YOU just die for no other reason than the fact that they couldn't find a way to increase the difficulty other than making your enemies some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ super soliders. In the beginning you don't experience this, because you're a low level and so are your enemies. But once you get up to the higher levels, every enemy seems to be the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ terminator with an aimbot function.

To anyone who says I did not invest enough time into it to be sure, let me tell you this. I am level 92, all my weapons are at least rank 6, and I have a minimum of second level of every skill tier. I have finished the game already, and now I am regretting having bought the season pass becasue I have no desire to continue with this ♥♥♥♥ show. I am not going to listen to any crap that says "but once you get to level 150 blah blah blah", I have no intention of tryign to farm my way up to that level when I'm not enjoying the game. At this point I am tempted to just either drop the game difficulty and finish the story I paid for, or just drop this game entirely and throw the 75 dollars I paid at release for it down the drain.
